"K80" ZT - Engine Back In! (23/05)
Re: Project "K80" ZT - Progressing (09/12)
I found RS2000 front and rear brakes inadequate for the potential of a 2.0 conversion. I had fore and aft discs blue and pads smoking after a spirited drive; a few stops from 140 and it's game over for them.
Rear discs aren't always necessary just because of a power increase, and I would say it's more important to get the balance right first, but ultimately drums can't dissipate heat quickly enough when repeatedly hauling down from triple figures. If most of your driving is below that then chances are you'll be fine.

jonyb4 :haha
so what same 280s for even over 200break?
On my 200bhp FRST I had completely standard brakes all round. Had four pirelli P600 tyres fitted aswell.
Never had a problem or saw the need to upgrade them.

Right, back on subject, still brake related too. Mondeo master cylinder and servo fitted today. I even managed to get it to sit so the strut brace still fits, Can you guess from the photo how I managed that though

You're gonna run without a bonnet, so you can put washers under your strut brace so it clears!

i find RS200 front brakes and a mk5 escort servo good enough for 2.0 power myself, but for over 200 id start to judge even a 280 set up
but thats me, wayne swears testament to them, maybe after hes had a spirited blast in the ZT he may out grow the brakes
servo will deffinately help!!

Have you even driven a fiesta with a powerful engine and standard brakes? As your advice seems to be based on assumption and not experience.

Perhaps a separate discussion in tech / tuning would be more appropriate - it's not like Wayne's really asked our opinions of what's necessary for his setup.

I saw a fez that looked uncannily like the old 5 door near mine today!! It confused me a lot, i hope you like the change to a 3 door though??

I don't know tweek but have seen him drive round coombe and Silverstone I think he is in a pretty good position to know what brake set up is required after driving a pretty much identical weight car at track pace. If they stop a 2.0 litre fiesta they stop a 2.0 fiesta regardless of horse power surely. And the old tried and tested saying don't fix what ain't broke

I don't know why everyone's talking about brakes. Wayne's going for a fixie - when he wants to slow down he just jams it into reverse.

Re: Project "K80" ZT - Progressing (15/12)
Gus, there is another one similar around, I've seen it somewhere on the forums but not for a while. I've no thoughts on the change yet but I'm storing quite a few parts on the back seats and I have to keep folding the seats down to get to them.
rsturbonutter - Exactly my thoughts. Obviously if and when this car gets out on track it should reach higher speeds on the straights and therefore increasing brake temperatures a bit but with how the setup is behaving, it should cope with that. Combe would be the track where any fade would occur first I rekon. We keep crossing paths, need to say hello next time.

Less unsprung weight, always a good call!
So whats the procedure for emergency stops? Lean out with a stick and jam it in the wheels?

Re: Project "K80" ZT - Engine Built (29/12)
A more interesting update... The engine is built

I was doing some more to it today, got as far as the exhaust manifold and hit a setback. The adapter I bought many months ago doesn't seem to line up, every port is off centre by about 5mm

Quite annoying, had it too long now to send it back!

Maybe the adaptor is for a blacktop? But you can always get it milled back

Need to take head back off to drill and tap, that would cost the price of a new headgasket and bolts too, and prone to leaking. That manifold is t2/25 flanged so wouldn't fit the t3, as well as interfering with the metal water rail.

Milling would prob be best, however I reckon you could do it yourself with a holesaw on a pillar drill. Use the cvh gasket to mark the hole and drill through

thats pretty annoying but simple enough to sort, its the exhaust too so i wouldnt worry about the adapter being larger than the ports and causing turbulence or similar

Don't mean to be rude but if you have a look on blacktop zetecs they are circular on the exhaust ports silvertop ones are a weird shape.

just a thought id only remove material from the back of the adapter plate as i take it its for a escort rst manifold.. drill them out and the ports might be too wide for it

Cheera for the replies guys.
I just got a message back from the guy I bought it from, he says it was meant to be made like that to get it all to fit and doesnt cause much of a restriction. Advised to chamfer it out a bit if I felt the need but should still be fine?
Confused!
