thats not bad at all, odd that front panel bumper fixing spot though, has it had a small shunt?

mine has a 5pence hole where yours is on the rear by the light, exact same place!

id be happy with that, that chassis leg needs clearing up though, i hate that area :(

use a zetec/Si pas cooler there tiny compared to that big one

rot in the common places, and it dont look too bad, the wings through, well i reckon who ever replaced them didnt protect the panel before or after fitting.
strange one on the front panel, might of had a light shunt and the dents beat back out but again never protected right and its caused it to rust out??

still, its not all bad, all a easy fix, i woulodnt mind if thats all i had to of done to clarks

There is quite a bit of evidence that this car has had a front end prang at some point. The front pannel looks like it was probably replaced and caused the wings to rot out there. The front bumper was made in 2001 and the headlights are brand new Lucas lamps. Also, the 2nd vin tag, the painted one, is still black whereas the slam pannel is blue. More possible evidence of a replacement there then?

Anyway, car was left at the guy who does the welding today. Car is awful to drive, brakes are pants and the clutch is right at the very top  Should have it back tomorrow night, also having the new bootlid welded so I can smooth it the same as the 5dr's bootlid, which has warped and has a wonky spoiler.

Just got the car back, all the welds are nice and flush with the pannels and covered in stonechip for now. tbh if it wasn't for the stonechip you wouldn't even know they were there

Some pics that don't really show a lot. In the same order as the rusty ones above apart from the one inside the boot cos there's not much to see there. All the bits have been shaped so it's hard to tell lol.

No great progress at all since the last update but I have removed and got rid of the old 1.3 engine and spent a quarter of the total cost of this project in one day! The Zetec block is back and I now also have a gearbox :)

Block looks good, but i'd plug one of those breathers back up, two would only be of real benefit on either ends of the block, gonna be a fair chunk of extra work and cost for no benefit. The oil return on front of sump looks good tho!

I had the 2 breathers made up to sort of match the size of the front one, I kinda copied it off Mark's/Excursion's guide. It wasn't until afterwards I realised that the size of the pipe off the front breather is actually tiny! The idea was to use a T-piece and merge them to the same pipe on an oil seperator.

5dr gets dismantled after Combe.

There are many variables that decide c/r

My engine with the same head gasket but frs pistons gives approx 9:1, but with a frs head gives 8.2:1, or if you use the thicker gasket you can take another 0.4 off both those figures, but they will increase depending on how much the head had been skimmed.....

Not sure on the c/r, I've done some rough estimates and its high 7s - low 8s. Now it's all back I can work it out and get the suitable head gasket and confirm

The alternator itself isn't too much of a problem from what I can see, it's the "triangular" section of the chunky bracket that's in the way. Grinder will fix that lol.
