"K80" ZT - Engine Back In! (23/05)
"K80" ZT - Engine Back In! (23/05)
As some of you know, I've been gathering a bunch of zetec turbo parts over the last few months with the intention of building up a new car, this time I wanted a 3dr, shocking. Anyway, after many painful months of searching, big thanks to those who have gone to view shells for me! I today finally collected one. It's not a stunningly mint shell, plenty of scuffs and scrapes but it is surprisingly clean underneath with just a few bits of surface rust, no bubbles. For the price I paid it's spot on, the only issues I have to put right before starting off is there's a bit of rot right on the ends of the front wings which I've not seen on mk3 before.
Here it is, a blue 1996 mk3.5 Frascati, just what I was after

Nothing exciting in here...

Epic power plant, looks a mess but other than the usual battery tray rust, it's just in need of a clean out (and removing)

This is about as bad as the rust gets underneath:

Finally, one to show how I need to get it to look, eventually

As I said, it's not a stunner but it's a lot better under the skin than my 5dr
Let the games begin

When I saw the title, I instantly thought of something other than a car...
Good find though Wayne, does look very clean indeed!

Good find with a Frascati! I always wanted one but wasn't really arsed when I bought my shell. Yours looks cleaner than mine
I suspect I paid conciderably more than you too

Nice find Wayne! The 5dr has always looked great so I'm sure the new one will be just the same
What other plans do you have then? Any fancy new parts/changes?

Nice find there mate,
Finding a decent mk3.5 is hard enough let alone a clean one.
Looking forward to this project.

Re: Introducing Katie's Dirty Little Sister...
Cheers for the comments guys
It won't look too different to the 5dr. Those that remember my first 5dr will know that doesn't look much different to the current one other than colour
Frascati is a sort of half way between Ghia and base model. It has the electrics but no cig lighter (although I've found the wiring blanked off behind it), 2 speakers, low level interior trim etc. It's the electrics and PAS that made me want one, saves me a job wiring stuff in.
Back to the top post, this is the rust on the wings that is my first job to do, then to clean it all inside and out before engine removal.
It's pretty nasty but because of where it is it's no major issue to sort

Probably the bonnet being in the wrong position and when it was driven it was in dirty conditions. With a hand wash its the perfect conditions for water buildup there.

Re: Introducing Katie's Dirty Little Sister...
Strange place for it to rust! Shouldn't be too hard to sort out though
Has the wing in the first picture (drivers side) been sprayed before? Or is the paint just a bit funny because the rust is creaping under it?

There is a bracket that screws to the inner wing, then it slides on
