Bummer. I got mine basically right, then slotted the mounting tabs to give fine adjustment. I have the ability to clamp the mounting bolts up very tightly, tightly enough to stop it moving on the road once the position's finalised. I don't know what your mounts are like, but if they're good enough, you should be able to get away with the same thing :)

yeah thats all i had to do, just slot the holes i drilled in the tab :D

original fan does not fit with the cooler mounted falt against the car :( i noticed moodust and streetdragster slightly bent the tabs on it, so the cooler stuck out more giving more room for the fan. im going to have to find to small thin fans instead i think:D

was there a waiting list for the grs cooler or did you get it straight away?

when i rang him i think he said it was about a 4 week wait, but it arrived on my door in about 10 days :D :Q but this was this time last year

now all i need to do is choose a filter :-? ithink i might opt for the 2L zetec item over the smaller renault 5 turbo one. might see if i can get a clio 16v one, that would be inbetween the 2? i think there is enough room for the 2L item :D

Oooooh its all coming together just nicely! Why not go for a remote mount filter and oil cooler to solve any potential clearance/oil all over the engine when changing filter type problems?

well.......... i wanted to keep the bonnet catch, bit when we tried to put the turbo and rad in together, it was having non of it :( so i might have to get bonnet pins

thats the only hurdle i forsee at the moment :D nothing major, just my preference of the catch over pins

if it can be at shows, ill be there mate 8) :Q

Excellent!

Keep up the progress mate. We should see some pretty wicked cars coming through soon!! :o

Agree with Pez on the remote filter and cooler mate. That folter looks far too small, unless your up for changing the filter on an overly regular basis.

It's also worth noting that Ford can sell you an external mount filter kit. They can be fitted to the Mondeo 24V.

Fitting guide = got the old ones out, now been told they dont make them for the mk5 yet till late feb :-? But i know people have them on ZSOC and zetecs.com so am waiting for a reply.

Have asked for dimentions for puma/mk4 ones!

Old ones were easy ish to remove, Prise plastic bits out, melt rubber lever metal bit out, cut outer metal and hammer it through!

Took about 30-40mins a side!

Basically... Remove the oil filter, and this item will screw on in plpace of it, it can be rotated to face any direction

Take off plate

The two ports on this unit are an oil feed and return pipe, the feed will go to this part....

Remote filter head

This is the remote filter head, you can bolt this on to somewhere like your inner wing, and means you can use the larger more efficient oil filter.

This the two ports are again feed and return, and the return will be directed to....

Oil Cooler

The oil will go in one end, and back out the other, back to the take off plate (item 1) and into the engine. Its a handy way of cooling your oil, and moving your filter to a more accessible/roomy area of the engine bay.

The parts above probably arent the correct ones for the job, but have a browse through the range and you will find something to suit your needs, or give them a call direct and ask what they advise for your particular setup.

Hope this has cleared things up slightly :)

Woah Ian! Take it easy dude! I see some fairly major progress has been made, don't want to tire yourself out now! :p The silver cam cover in that crisp white engine bay looks good enough to eat, reeeeally like it :) Does the 2.0 pose problems that the 1.8 doesn't in terms of oil filters? Must do! The remote filter and cooler would be a good move, and you'll probably be one more person who fits their oil cooler before me! :x

mark - thanks :-? :-?

james - i dont forsee any problems as of yet (but then theres nothing in there bar the engine yet). i thought the way people said the filter needs to be alot smaller, i thought there was a major issue with room, and the filter catching the bulkhead / driveshafts / lots of other things or something, yet there seems to be ALOT of room behind the filter. i think ill just trial fit the 2L item and she what the crack is :D

as for the oil cooler :-? im not sure yet. thats just another obsticle tbh, as i need to sort the friggin zaust manifold now, which i thought would be just a case of an adapter plate, but thats not going to work due to room.

so i may just try and get it on the road, and look into a remote filter another time :)

Streetdragster used an adaptor plate, but things are tight enough at the front end as they are without adding precious millimetres, as you've already done with the radiator being the thickness it is. Things start getting very tight up there!

What's wrong with a 1.6 Turbo filter, it be inbetween the two extremes you have then! :Q
I think I might just be able to fit a 2.0L one on mine but because of the angle at which you withdraw it, it'd be very close to hitting.... 1.6 one serves me fine!
