Tanjaz - PM sent.

Adz, nice looking mark 2 :) The wheels look great - as they're clearcoated, you should protect them with Poorboy's Wheel Sealant. This will add shine to the CC, and also protect the wheels throughout the winter months, and all year round against brake dust etc. All this, and it'll enhance the finish too :)

I'd personally go for a bright finish on the car to emphasise flake in the sun, whilst still looking wet in the shade. You should clay, then:

Polish - ClearKote Vanilla Moose Glaze
Glaze - CK Red Moose Machine Glaze
Sealant - Poorboy's EX-P
Wax - Natty's Blue Finishing Wax.

If the car's fully protected with all four stages, there's no need to do them all the time - after rain, you can just wash the car. Then you can top up the finish by reapplying the finishing wax as you see fit.

Gareth :)

Hi Gaz

Could you give me a price on the following please mate:

Optimum Car Wax
Waffle Weave Drying towel
Applicator Sponge (recangular blue one)

Also, do you have anything for glass?

I noticed while waxing both mine and my GF's car yesterday that they both had swirl marks on the bonnet and roof. What best to get rid of these and methods of application? I suppose i had better have a price on these too :D

Hi Gaz

Further to my post above, thought i would put up a couple more pics i took at the weekend after giving the kat a birthday. The pics were taken on my phone and don't really do the flake justice, but i think you can get the idea...

a little teaser, the flake can be seen on the a-pillar and door

Image

Here's a close up...

I know i keep saying it, but thanks again mate...

Hi DJ,

OCW is £11.95
PB's WW is £8.95
The M/F block applicators are now £1.55

The pics look great mate, they really do the car justice 8) The EX-P has really helped to bring out moondust's flake. The best thing to use on glass is the ClearKote Quik Shine that you already have, and just give it a good buffing in - use a towel specific for glass if you have trouble getting results. You'll get nicer results from the QS than dedicated liquid polishes, which will dust. The VMG you have is also excellent buffed into glass if you need more cleaning power.

The swirl marks will be nigh on impossible to fully remove by hand - it's a machining job. You can give it a go with SSR1 (£9.95) if you wanted - this will give you your best shot - although machining would be best.

Adz - no probs, just let me know whenever you need anything :)

Someone has advised you incorrectly - new, fresh paint should only be polished, not waxed. Waxing new paint blocks its pores, and it needs to be able to breath to work harden. Polishing by hand does not block pores and is perfectly safe on even fresh paint. For people worried about polishing new paint - bear in mind the body shop will have already mopped it with a really harsh compound polish to get it to shine after spraying - hand polishing with a normal polish is nothing after that ;)

It is once the paint is hardened that you want to block its pores with glazes/sealants/waxes, as this will then protect it.

You have a good set up with the PB's shampoo, and the mitts and towel. Polish the car now to get the wax off, then leave it for at least another 30 days without applying anything (apart from more polish if you wish).

Just as a point though - you don't need to use applicator pads with OCW - it's designed to be sprayed directly onto the car, then wiped in with a M/F towel until dry.

Hi mate, the first pic, close to the camera is showing some flake, but it's hard to judge how much exactly just by the pics.

How much flake is there? Do you want to emphasise this, or go for a deep wet look with the flake muted?

Let me know and i'll advise you of which products would be best.

Hi mate,

For your paintwork.... this line up will show up and 'pop' the flake in the sunshine, but still give a wet look in the shade:

Polish: ClearKote Vanilla Moose Glaze
Glaze: ClearKote Red Moose Machine Glaze
Seal: Poorboy's EX-P
Wax: Natty's Blue

This line up will give a full on wet look:

Polish: Poorboy's Polish with Carnauba Blue
Glaze: ClearKote Red Moose Machine Glaze
Seal: Poorboy's EX
Wax: ClearKote Carnauba Moose Wax.

Hope that helps mate

Gareth :)

Gareth,

Moondust, being a light silver with a lot of flake, is best cared for with:

Polish - ClearKote Vanilla Moose Glaze
Sealant - Poorboy's EX-P
Wax - Optimum Car Wax

Glazes and heavy carnauba waxes don't suit Moondust, so these are omitted.

As for solid black, you have a range of options.

For polish, you can use either CK VMG or PB's Polish with Carnauba Blue. You should then glaze with ClearKote Red Moose Glaze, to deepen and wetten the finish, seal with Poorboy's EX and wax with ClearKote Carnauba Moose Wax. For a real concours finish, you can add a 'smoother' wax (ClearKote Yellow Cream Wax) before the finishing wax for the wettest look possible.

HTH

Hi mate, yes it's a paste like the 476s, and it's Collinite's range topping wax.

In my test, it performs with at least equal durability (neither have worn off yet so it's hard to tell  ) and gives a richer finish due to it's high carnauba content. It's more expensive being the top of the line wax, but this is countered by it coming in a much larger tin than the 476s. I've used it on a few cars and it barely looks like i've touched the surface :)

Hi Gaz.

Just starting to catch on to this whole detailing milarky

Am using Megs Gold Class Shampoo and Liquid Wax atm, along with their High Endurance Tyre Gel, Trim Detailer and Clay.

What would you recommend as alternatives from the poor boys range? I think I'd mainly be looking at polish etc, but am open to suggestions :)

Paint is ultra blue metallic btw:

In sun:

In duller weather:

Do you want a full wet look, or a finish so that you have a wet look in the shade, but the metallic flake 'popping' in the sunshine?

Let me know, and i'll recommend you some products to suit.

Hi Gareth.

A wet look in the shade and a nice metallic pop in brighter conditions is what I'm after :)

If you've got stuff that I could use along side my exisiting Megs stuff, that would be great :)

Hi mate,

Okay, to use alongside your Meg's stuff, and to pop the flake (the only Meg's product you'd no longer use would be the wax):

Polish - ClearKote Vanilla Moose Glaze
Glaze - ClearKote Red Moose Machine Glaze
Seal - Poorboy's EX-P
Wax - Natty's Blue.

If you use the car daily through the winter, and want some extreme protection, you could consider a wax from the Collinite range - nothing is more durable.

Hi mate,

When you have a respray, chances are that the bodyshop will clearcoat the paint, which will help against further fading. Ask them about this before they go ahead and paint.

Then for red:

Polish - ClearKote Vanilla Moose Glaze
Glaze - ClearKote Red Moose Glaze
Seal - Poorboy's EX
Wax - ClearKote Carnauba Moose Wax.

For the first 90 days after painting, you should only use the polish ( CK VMG).

In that case, keeping the recommended line up, and keeping the car waxed, will stop any issues with fading. Once it's painted, if you always care for it carefully, it'll never fade :) The wax also contains UV protection to help against this.
