Re: The Recaro Fiesta - T3 Fitted

I have had a few quotes on T3 replacements.

Turbo active want £381 which includes vat/postage and they collect the old one for free once i take it off. But that is for a standard T3.

Gb turbo solutions quote £315 - T3 variant to be fully reconditioned to stage 1 specification. Using a 360 degree bearing rebuild kit, which allows more boost pressure to be run. A safe maximum of 25psi giving better response and impressive power gains.

But again thats if it doesnt need a new shaft etc which of course will be more £££.

The cost of a stage 1 T3 without getting mine reconditioned is £440 without the Vat.

Can anyone recommend of any other places to get one reconditioned ?

your T3 is not a stage 1 mate, you have the typical movement in the shaft as a std turbo with a 270 degree thrust brearing.

tried universal turbos?

they were the guys we were speaking to at ford fair

Mine currently runs water , i have seen a drop already in engine temp going from the T2 to the T3 as the bigger turbo hardly spins up around town driving. That £300 you paid ? was it for the T3 unit without exchange and did it include vat etc ?

Should i go for oil cooled only as i do alot of short trips ??? :-?

Yes mate the s1 turbo's are oil cooled and are cheeper to buy, if you make lots of short trips then keep the water.

my mate only uses universal and swares by them for their 24 service

I'll double check the price and date for the TT receipt i have.

i had a bit of a time trying to get them to accept a turbo i got from them was playing up, in the end it seemd to sort it self out, then week after the warrenty ran out the thing started smoking, but when i called them about oil seals the guy i spoke to was happy to send me one, he never did thigh as i didnt call back as they didnt do the size the shaft needed as they had fitted the klargest seal they could in the first place :x

still, that one will be used for a twin seal set up when i get the lathe setup.

back on topic now

oh m8 bad luck with the T3

real shame but i always use this sort of thing for an excuse for a up grade like you said a STAGE 1 T3.

i used turbo tecnics for my hybrid T2 2 years ago and its still going strong at 15 PSI, i think you get what you pay for at the end of the day, but a bargin dose appear every now and then, so i think its always wise to shop about

Torque of the devil recormended turbo tecnics too, i was very impressed with there service, they have been going for years and seem to really know there stuff

catch you later

oh mate my comiserations about the T3. Thats a real shame. Especially after watching you work towards it for such a long time.

ok stupid question here but what would be stopping you from using a compleately different turbo say from a saab or something as a budget solution for the time being??? I know nothing about turbos so please explain your answer to aid my learning difficulies :D

not sure what turbo can be put on in place of a t3. But i will be going for a brand new standard water cooled t3.

I have realised it aint worth having a stage 1 that can do 25 psi if i aint going to be running that. My engine certainly aint up to that sort of boost neither is the standard intercooler.

195 chip, beiges , - 31 actuator and a new t3 will be more than enough for me..

you have to remember max. I use my rs as a everyday car so i have to be careful what changes i make. I dont have a run around like most people on here to fall back on when the poo hits the fan.

The more power i give it the more petrol its going to cost me going to and from work etc. I dont want to be going through clutches or gear boxes every 6 months other wise i will be forced to get another car.

Good comment clark - i have my eye on a fiesta that has all the add ons 195 - 701 etc but i would be using it as an everyday car so all that will be coming off and back to standard using a boggo T3 to replace the uprated T2 because the fuel economy of a standard-ish rs turbo is fairly good considering also It does appear from other ford owners the more miles a tuned car does the more boxes, clutches it goes through.

clarks looking at adding the 701's etc etc so its not gunna make much difference to him

mind you before my rebuild i used to do about 185-190 miles on a full tank with my set up which is the 701, 195 chip etc etc but i dont really boot it much, but really thats not much difference to when it was std.

igf i do long runs like motor way driving ive got 290 miles out of a tank before and ive had a play or 3 on the motor way with that too

money issues means i cant get the new T3 on the fiesta till after xmas

I may just get it set up without the beiges, chip etc and see how it goes for now. On another note i got caught in some bad traffic earlier tonight and my manual fan switch melted and i nearly overheated. Had to cut the wires and wire it on permanently to get me home. Desperatly need to wire a relay into that circuit.

Thanks alot guys :aviator:

Chris - The car is still going strong just using the same ammount of oil as petrol at the moment

Thanks to nomad for sorting me out with some standard shocks today with spax 30mm drop springs, managed to swap over the rears and now i can safely take those speed bumps again. The coilovers made it so stiff, Cant wait to swap the fronts.

Re-wired a new switch in today so fan now works again. Problem is if i wire in a original ford thermostat switch within a month it melts itself using the fuse box relay. Have no idea why ?? :-?

Turbo wise i will be going for a brand new unit when i can get one. Whether it be a Standard or stage 1. Im defonatly using water cooling around the london traffic. Too many traffic lights for my liking

if i were you i would wire it through a relay but have a relay just for it, wire it to the ignition and have it running off the thermo switch and if you want fit a by-pass switch too, but fuse the wire so if it gets hot it pops the fuse rather than melts the wire out.

if i get time if you want, ill make up a loom for ya to use for it, if the price is right
