Bit of a update :)

my xr2i head has been sent off to cylinder head developments last week. Its going for a complete overhaul. When it returns it will be a stage 2 , ported and polished jobbie with new studs fitted for rockers.

Friday i found out my cylinder head is all finished, i should see it back via courier on tuesday/wednesday.

i requested new valve stem seals, new valve springs, new studs as well as the stage 2 port/polish

Sooner i get this back the sooner i can get the rebuilt engine built up. :D

Cylinder head developments

Basic cylinder head refurbishment is £290. With all the extras stage 2 and polishing it comes to around £450

your head is secondhand thou, so it aint really the same as having a head sent off for the work to be done, and obvously he has comeback if the work aint right etc. 450 aint that bad imho

it looks even better in the flesh. All thats needed now is a brand new ford camshaft and a Ford head gasket. Ive decided not to use a pattern part head gasket for peace of mind.

Ford head bolts are £4.67 each ! :o :o :oooh:

As i use this as an everyday commuting car i need something that is at least half decent on fuel economy. When i used the cvh35 before i was doing £10 per day in fuel and could smell neat fuel vapours from the engine bay. Plus it was very lumpy and kept trying to stall when changing down gears.

I will get some pics up of the polished ports on the weekend.
put it this way they are smooth as a babys bum :D

i Recieved the brand new Cvh rs turbo camshaft today. Aparently it was on backorder from germany but in just 2 days it appeared. Tight gits dont even give you a woodcuff key with it

New parts purchased :

inlet manifold head studs
inlet manifold hex nuts
camshaft oil seal + blanking plug
oil pick up gasket
oil pump gasket
exhaust manifold hex nuts
Ford Head gasket
thermostat housing gasket/ o-ring
throttle body gasket

today i also was listing down the last remaining parts needed to swap the engines over...

sierra cvh rubber rocker cover gasket
sump gasket/sealant
Cambelt
New ford clutch kit
10/40 oil - 5 litres
3 antifreeze
clutch bolts x6
ISCV gasket
gearbox oil

I think i will get christmas out of the way before i make a start on this. As the car is my daily comute it would need to be done on a weekend. :oooh:

Glad you got your cam so quickly, you got lucky there! :oooh: - I remember ordering one from Ford for my sister's old XR2i and they told me it was on order from Germany but after a month nothing had happened so I got a refund and ordered one as near standard as possible from Piper and fitted that!

yeah its re-useable but how ofton you looking at taking the cover off mate :-?
ive never had a problem with cork ones, they only normaly leak for the following reasons

the old gasket was never cleaned off fully
over tightened causing it to crush/split
not re-tightened after a given time
or the biggest thing people do, not tighten the cover down right, i.e in the right order, they norm start with one and then work there way round, it should be nipped up and tighten in sequence.

All really simple stuff too so provided you do it all right then you "shouldn't" have any problems. Mind you having said that you havn't exactly had lady luck on your side with this car so far have you.

Buy both and if the cork one don't work the way you hoped, get Jay to re-imburse the money and fit the rubber one :D
