i havent touched it yet.

I need to get hold of a New camshaft kit , im a bit worried about using a uprated camshaft. I used a kent fast road cam in my xr2i cvh and it made it pink and run horrible....

Also need to get a head gasket, head bolts, and a few more gaskets.

I doubt it will be done in time for show season due to money issues and trying to get the French Rs sorted too :(

Well we are hoping it will be done and Tony will take it off our hands on the day and take it up there himself....

If not then we can at least advertise it!

You never know your luck! Could be blasting past you in an RS.....or in Kuckles's

Yes mine is eating alternators like no-ones business!! And yes a new batt might be needed as it keeps getting run down and then jumped, so I am sure it is not getting on too well! All will be solved with a little expenditure on Thursday

I done a compression test other day and they all read 11 on guage which was in the green. But when engine starts from cold you can hear a slight knocking sound. Then when warm the cam and tappets are really noisey :(

I finally got round to removing the sump on the new engine i bought. The crank has been reground, new bearings fitted with assembly grease. So rebuild looks ok. Just need to fit new water pump and new oil pump as they are not new items. Then the usual gaskets and seals.

The thing thats stopping me atm is requiring a new Camshaft kit for new engine. Im using a xr2i head with new cam. £279 for a kent Kit

New build sounds ok mate, new pumps on then i take it you'll need to run it in for 1k

Why don't you buy a standard replacement cam kit from ford it maybe cheaper as kent are s**t in these engines, well past experiences have proven.

you can get a standard cam kit albeit its not ford, it'll be qh or something of the similar from places like central auto supplies, or even bedford battery...

the last time i enquired about a kit from these guys it was just shy of £100 :D

personally tho i'd slap a lairy high lift in from newman cams and solid lifters :P

Every year i am struck by the pre show season demons. :x

Disaster struck today when i was on way home from the 1st fantastic day working for fords.

I was on the a406, when i was exiting the underpass, the engine started to backfire. I heard popping from the engine bay when i increased the throttle.

So i idled to the lay by and opened the bonnet to hear it running really bad and tapping like mad . . . .
switched off immediately and rung for help to tow me home. I opened the oil filler cap to find a rocker arm sitting there loosely with the seat !

After the mighty mondeo diesel towed the rs home i removed the rocker cover to discover this .....

Image

The stud has sheared off and rocker arm sits there in rocker cover. The hydrolic lifter was smashed to bits by the camshaft.

unhappy knuckles  :(

overtightened at some point most likely :(

either that or hte hydraulic tappet seized or broke up and jammed, still more likely for the valve to break or bend off the piston i suppose

 You just love trying to come up with new, different ways in which you can challenge my ability to repair your car before it gets dark a few days before a show, don'tcha. Not the end of the world, the Recaro Fiesta /will/ be at the show, one way or another. You just have to promise me not to break something else the bloody afternoon before we leave, ok?
