Ha. I'm not sure I want it in a magazine. I've never really been a fan of the Ford ones. Sorry I never answered your question, the spacers were from Ford, £20 ish complete with bolts. They go for around £11 second hand. Bargain really given the benefits.

do you happen to have a part number for them, would help alot, but they just go straight on the mk3 hubs?

Any reasons as to why they do not work on MK3 rear beams? PCD difference I presume?

I remembered seeing the spacers couple of years ago when working on a sport ka but never got around to getting any, and still to this day I have wanted some  Luckily I never got them as I didnt know they wouldn't fit!

I think I will get some made up, which wont be hard at all really, might even do it myself in a workshop, just need the PCD of the hub bolts which I can find out from the internet somewhere I'm sure :)

The rear hub bolt pattern is different. It's pretty easy to make them, though :)

Yes mate the ZS rear beam goes straight on, and is superior mate by a long way. It's 1.2mm thicker steel than the mk3 beam, and the void bushes are stronger.

The Mk5 beam is an upgrade over the FRST one, and the ZS beam is 20% stiffer still

Cant believe people still don't get the ZS beam thing, I've been saying for 4years or so that it was the best thing I did to my white one!

The ARB on an FRST isn't an ARB at all, its a strengthening bar.

not quite

earlier puma's and mk4 fiestas pre 98 i believe had a fork type mounted shock and the beam wasn't as thick, then they made the eye mounted shock beam which was stiffer, then the 1.7 puma and zetec s one was even stronger again

i know from owning a mk4, my mates puma which i worked on regularly and the fact everyone knows about the zetec s beam

apparently a twin anti roll bar mk3 beam is the equivalent to a zetec s beam

I was talking Mk4 phase 2 onwards i.e. if it's got digital dials, you're good.

The Mk3 beam with the ARB is awful - such a choppy ride. Two or three ARBs is a bodge and counter-productive. There must be flex in the right areas to make the car handle over anything other than a perfectly smooth surface :) :)

aye, wel all im saying is the twin arb stiffens the torsion side of the beam, effectively making it close to a Zs beam in stiffness

i could be wrong though

its no different to fitting a better/thicker arb front or back really

anyway!

any news on what tyres your gonna use?

As this has gone onto stiffness of the rear beam now lol, another way to stiffen it up is do what Rob has done iirc, by welding metal plates into the beam itself.

But as Mark has said, you need a certain amount of flext and twist for it to be a smoother ride on roads. Now, if you are tracking it a lot perhaps, and 2nd rear ARB or stiffening up the beam by welding plates could be benaficial for less body roll, but of course this will effect other forces on the car, making it slightly less stable in other areas. Too much of a stiff rear end isn't always a good thing on a car as light as a fiesta with no weight on the rear either lol.

I think perhaps if this is going to get into a massive debate, we need to start a thread of its own, seeing as mods and admin are meant to be clamping down on this off topic talking - although this is technically on topic... But also, I dont want to fill Mark's thread with crap and debates about something like this as I wouldnt want it on my thread :)

Welding plates in doesn't get around the fact the mk3 beam is weak around the suspension mounting points - it was built to be cheap :D

yea, its basicly the same argument as to fitting strut braces, they dont allow the needed flex on bumpy/curved roads, so if you fgo up the mountains alot dont fit a rear strut brace

My point is that ford probably spent a bit more cash developing the beam for the Puma/ZS than the Mk3 :) not someone in a garage welding plates/adding bars :)

i'll let you know how my rear beam is, with the large section stitch welded
i bought it like that years ago along with my rs2000 rear drum/disc setup, it was done by the mark that had max's ZT originally

i've got rear axel spacers, and powerflex bushes everywhere except for the front rose joints,
a full corner weight setup and spring rates are the most important to me at the moment
