It's bloody snowing near mine today mate, there was a lovely 'bong' sound with the temp flashing at 1 Deg C!!!I was like wtf?!

Then I realised it meant that the roads would be nice and slippery which would be great for a bit of sideways fun without adding any additional wear and tear to the car, so off I went to the nearest large round about

So let me get this right - Mike has "leant" his car to Mark, who's "not going to cut the front end off, honest!" and in return Mark has leant Mike a BMW, who's "not going to stack it on a roundabout, honest!"?
I can't see this ending well...
What BM is it?

Was a perfect morning for the roundabout action today lol. I was doing plenty of silly looking slow slides on the way to work at 8:30.
Great fun
I only wish I had a rwd car now

This jig has taken an absolute age to make.
This is what happens to mk4/5 top mounts over time. Very graceful degradation compared to the Mk3 versions which splay out:

Starting out using a spare subframe:

Rear hub locations with +20mm track.

Nearly there:

That looks great!
You going to be using the standard rubber top mounts mark? Think mine could do with changing as they will 99% never have been done. (Car is on 90k)

barez chilli sauce bluds
I recall your website whence you modded up a 4-speed basic fiesta into a xr2i. Got me into modifying my own mk3.
This is great work. A car as sophisticate and dynamic as todays benchmark wrapped in classic lines. (borat voice: it's very nice!)
Once completed - if you ever were to sell it > what would be the sticker?/

Sell..hmmm. I think I'd let her go for 15k when complete, otherwise I couldn't justify selling, given the amount of time & thought I've put in. I wouldn't sell though, not for the foreseeable future anyway.
Ruff clart riddim update,,,front end is on,,,nuff badness
It fits like a glove, the jig did its job:

Inside on the A Pillar:

Inside the car:

Welding was a mixture of plug and full seam. There is still a lot to do but I got the major areas finished. I don't rate weld-through primer much though as it does seem to cause a bit of spatter. I think it works better with spot welding.

A Mk3 wing in place and you can see the difference in shape between it and a Mk5, the Mk5 is a lot lower at the front and a good 5" longer.

Test fit. I'm going to reposition the front cross member slightly and it will be concealed inside a scooped-out FRST/XR2i bumper, that way I'll keep the extra space the Mk5 front end provides. Mk5 slam panel will be removed and I'll modify a Mk3 one to go in it's place (that makes it sound eas, it's going to take a fair bit of work to make it all look spot-on!).

Good to see it looking like a car!
When it gets finished you'll need to take me for a ride, without my car none of this would be possible!
Nice stereo on the shelf bad boy!

Incredible!
That shot inside the A-pillar; is there still some metal to trim off the mk5 stuff before it gets welded in place?

Tom, no mate. What you see there is the inner wing inner section coming through from the engine bay, and the cross member behind the dashboard is spot welded to it (the tabs which are bent out). If that makes sense...

Max, Yes I was always going to fit air con, even if it was a Mk3 front end. It will be a hybrid system comprising parts from Golf/Focus/Mk5 Fiesta.
Ian - Piece of cake, I've kept my Mk3 inner wings and I'll cut the top off them (the section that the wings are spot welded to) and weld those onto the Mk5 inner wings. The front end will require the most work, I'll have to remake a Mk3 front panel.
Rod - Steering wheel on opposite side.
