As some of you will know I bought Rawli's aubergine fiesta last year.

My intention was to put in a decent engine. Well after several months of messing around and not doing anything other than driving it I thought I would SORN it at the end of last month so as to make me do the conversion so that I could drive it again. After getting back home on Wednesday I decided to crack on and I have to say I've quite surprised myself as to how quickly I've managed to what I have.

First of all I have an 1800 zetec which I used for my conversion a few years ago. It was a standard 105ps version until I acquired the 130ps bit's from purplefiesta, many thanks. As I was also running an Si engine loom I needed a CULT ecu which I acquired from goaty, cheers. As with YRN being a diesel a full car loom exchange would be required and those of you who have me on messenger will know how much I have been dreading it! I acquired a full car and engine loom from PhilSi, cheers, as my old fiesta was an 1100 to start life and I had also retro fitted the electric pack so I thought it best to start a fresh. I stripped the old car's interior first so as to give me at least some idea how to get it all out before starting on YRN.

The once I'd got the old one stripped I started on YRN. :aaah:

This is actually organised chaos!

Image

Image

Image

I surprised myself at how quickly it all went together again and in addition I managed to add a passenger airbag along with electric windows, central locking and boot release.

Image
Note the addition of a rev counter and a working PATS light in the clock! I used the PATS module from my old car as I have a master key and brand new locks on it as well.

Image

Image
Now Si door cards with the electric pack.

I put some new ring terminals on the loom for the battery terminals and bolted them up to the battery. There was an awful screeching from the lights on audible warning, the blue main beam indicator was on and the rev counter was over on the speedo. I wasn't very happy, but it was quickly resolved by putting on the main earth strap! Everything then worked perfectly so I'm well chuffed and all ready for engine change. The plan is for the engine change to be completed this Sunday. I'll keep you posted.

I'm really glad this car's being given some power, it's such a looker! Shame you didn't pull your thumb out with the T-shirts or you could've had one!

That will be awesome once it's got power. You ad Rawli deserve a fiesta public service award.

Top notch work :)

Woohoo!!! The engine is in!.

Couldn't manage an update yesterday though as I was well and truely pooped. In 11.5 hours we managed to drop both engines, replace the zetec into the other and get her running. We were supposed to start at 9 but that ended up being 10 after obligatory run to maccys for a breakfast.

Image
This was the scene before the carnage began.

Image
Up she goes.

We decided it would be easier and quicker to just drop the whole of the front end, wang the engine in then rebuild around it. Managed to pull the gear linkage apart in getting the engine out, so I now don't have a spare anymore. :x

Image
Jim pulling bits off.

Image
It took us about an hour and half to drop the diesel.

Image
Jim wasn't too happy with the tea bag still in his tea.

Image
And about an hour to drop the zetec.

Image
Getting closer!

Image
Nearly there.

I've got a clean and laquered cam cover to on which should brighten up the engine bay. The engine was completely bolted up into YRN at about 1400hrs, which we all thought was damn fast work! I then got on with the mass of engine loom plugs.

Image
The rear beam came off as I had on the blue one an Si setup with anti roll bar and larger brakes. Fuel tank was swopped as well, the diesel lines are ok to use.

Image
This exhaust looks a bit better than the diesel item, although this will soon be changed as well as it's showing it's age.

Image
The rear strut brace then went on then the rear beam.

We then tried starting her, this was about 1800hrs. I've buggered something on the wiring up as the engine doesn't turn when the key is turned to position three. The ignition works though and we arc'ed the power on the starter, she turned over and fired up first time. A little lumpy to start off with as it's not run for few months, but soon settled down and was purring. Quite a pleasing moment. There was then many an airlock in the cooling system!

We then spent the next four hours trying to bleed the brakes up! With no success. Bugger know whats up with it but after I've written this I'm off to get a new master cylinder and have another crack tonight. We did manage to get half a pedal and I could resist taking it round the block. It's certainly a bit different and with a K+N intake tube and a Pipercross sock sounds the absolute nuts. Anyway I'm off to get a master cylinder............

Chris, the splitter does need replacing mainly because I wasn't used to such a low car when I got it off you. I then managed a "knock-off" once a week. It took me two weeks to learn!

James, cheers. There's something in post coming your way.

The blue one went to the scrappers today. :(

The starting issue has now been sorted. Turns out the control relay VI had no earth. Just looped another in from the ignition relay next to it and everything is now good. The new master cylinder is either the wrong one or has a manufacturing fault on it. I've checked it against an actual Si one and all the line outlets are the same size with no adaptors so it's going back.

So there is just the cylinder and a new handbrake cable required before she can be taxed again. She could do with a wash and a polish now as well. :oooh:

I bought the blue one about two years ago as a write off. I got it through the VIC check and then we stuck the 1.8 in it, Si fuel tank, Si rear beam, Si front suspension and Si brakes. That's now whats been put onto YRN. It surprised a few people as it still had the Classic badge on the back!

Minor update.

The Brakeworld master cylinder went back a week or so ago, just had word that a mate who works for Benfield Ford has managed to source me a new Si item for staff rates :Q

Apparently even with an Si VIN number there could be four different variants! I went for the bigger item with a 23.9mm cylinder. Should see a marked pedal improvement from the 19mm diesel one.

Also been onto Flux who wanted an extra £42 for the engine conversion so she's nearly all ready to go! :bonkers: £25 of which was the administration charge, so well happy with that.

Yesterday started well. Somebody I know has a power bleeder so we got that on the go and the bled the brakes up, no problem. So I was all running! That was until rolled back to home at around, very silly o'clock in the morning to find this.....

Image
Somebody has been dancing on the bonnet.

Image
Kicked the f**k out of the front wing.

Image
Same to the driver's door and quarter panel.

Image
And the boot lid as well.

Really can't believe this has happened. It definately needs a new bonnet and front wing. I think the quarter panel will pop out and the bonnent vents are ok. So fudgekin angry. I can't begin to imagine why these little baxtered have done this what enjoyment could they have got out of it. It's small town so hopefully I'll find out who it was.

I hope you find out who did it and I hope you kill them or perhaps get someone else to. I'm not kidding in the slightest either, people who do this kind of thing have no usefull place on this earth and I see no reason at all for them to live.
