Lowering Springs...
Hello, Ive been looking at lowering my fiesta mk3 1994 1.1.
Ive seen lowering springs on ebay & on some websites and i was wondering whats a good price for them?
and if i can use them on my factory standard shock absorbers? or do i need to purchase something else along with the springs to fit them?
im all new to this so be gentle with me =]
Thanks

a good price for lowering springs can be anything up to £100 depending on what quality your after, ebay offer the full range. i would look at spending about 70-80ish. yes you can use your standard shock absorbers, although its wise to replace them for new items when changing the springs, as if they are already knackered you may get the wheels rubbing and they will wear alot quicker with the shorter springs.

PI do a kit for bout 60 quid, they will lower your car on standard shocks yes... but give you a harsh ride and probably make the car harder to drive fast, its worth getting a cheap set of shocks and springs such as Gmax for 200quid from the likes of demon-tweeks.co.uk or esp design

you can get a full set of springs for it that''ll lower by 30mm from essex racing.co.uk...55 quid and they are fine to be put on factory shocks.

take it from somebody who had lowering springs on there car with factory shocks, it will bounce and corner un-predictably, but for a temporary solution there ok i guess, have a look around for some matched shocks and springs anyay, they will completly transform how your car handles

I lowered my old car with -35mm Spax springs on brand new Unipart XR2i shocks. The ride was fine, infact I'd say it was much better than my current Gmax setup!
Only problem with doing that though was you needed to strap the ends of the springs to the cups to stop them from moving and doing that doesn't really please a grumpy MOT tester.

if you found your car bounced and cornered unpredictably i can only assume you had either rubbish springs or shocks, or both. my xr2i is lowered on spax springs and standard shocks and goes round corners perfectly. if the springs are good quality and the standard shocks are good too then its a combination that works very well indeed

Apart from you wouldn't as G-Max is shonky tat that isn't worth fitting to a wheelie bin (in one perhaps).
New stock shocks with a 30mm spring kit works surprisingly well. My ideal choice would be Koni top adjustables with Eibach springs though
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

maybe... i was only pointing out to the guy it can have that effect anyway, i just personally wouldnt put aftermarket springs on standard shocks, and a friend had a gmax kit on his old astra, i was pretty impressed for the 200 quid he paid lol.

Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.
