Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 20/11/09
update time.
last couple weekends ive been on call so not done much.
me and my dad have made up (95%) some tresels for the car to sit on, ditched the idea of making a metal frame up as i dont really have enough box section, time or space to build it as such, and with the carpet and mats in the workshop the wheels wouldnt really of rolled very well so over all, a great idea but not needed enough really.
very little time has been spent on the car over last couple weeks, and prob not much will get done over next couple, but the bonnet has had the plates tacked on and the bonnet is opening and shutting a dream, apart from the fact the gap at the back is a little too big for my liking something might need modding to allow the hinges to sit back further to stop the middle of the bonnet touching the scuttle on opening (yet misses completely when shutting...)
stops have to be made on the hinges to stop it opening so far that it touches the wiper motor cover
oh, and i over looked the fact that the header tank is close to the drivers inner wing DOH!, so it might not fit back in right
still worst case
anyway, i think ive said about some bits ive gathered so heres some pics
right and left hand brand new rear bulb holders

brand new mondeo less ABS, master cylinder

brand new top and bottom case for gear selector, although this is for the later type linkage, not the early ones like i had on the xr2, if i fit the later one or stick with the early one im not sure yet, but i bunged a chance bid in and no one else bidded

this little lot came as a job lot ebay win of £2.94 inc postage
front tie bar bushes and rear trailing arm bushes,
i dont need the trailing arm bushes, but might make use of them for a engine stabilising bar

this was a bargin, £11.51 inc post, and these are rare, very rare!
cant get the cap for it, but im told a escort mk4 one will do the job nice

confused..., this is how a standard one fits (pic robbed from xrtwo.com)

and this is how this new one fits

it has room for 2 pumps, but i will fit a twin outlet pump like as on mk3 and do away with the washer bottle in the boot too
anyhow, back to the car

there only tacked on for now in case they needed to be moved etc

even though the back end looks like its sticking up, when you lift the front level with the wings (as no stopped fitted) it lines up nice
anyhow, as i say hadly anything been done over last couple weeks, i got saturday, half day sunday then im on standby again for a week

Some good purchases there Jay. I never knew there was a differnt type of washer bottle for the mk2 fiesta.
That bonnet is looking good as well. This will quality when its finished.
Gareth.

cheers for thew kind words guys
hopefully once i get the bonnet right (this weekend with any luck) i can crack on with the body work, only thing slowing me up with that is money, im still missing panels and this close to xmas dont leave much with 4 kids to buy for and a missis that wants some £130 fcuking hair straighteners, some GHD things i dunno, fcuking £2.99 iron and £3.99 ironing board from argos would do the same job im sure
still shouldnt complain, once christmas is over and done with im sure when i start buying parts again and spending money them GHD things would of been a good investment as "ammo" for justifying new parts for the cars
still got it in my mind for a colour change too, im really tempeted, theres a british racing green one on ebay, although looks metalic but looks good imo
not a fan of the bumper, but i have the same quad lights

Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 20/11/09
your right, red is the best colour
might look into a different red though, options are open at the mo, untill the engine bay is ready for paint i have till then to make my mind up, if i havent picked one by then it stays red.
reason i was thinking of colour change is becuase 30% if the inside is gunna be painted again and if i was to do a colour change its just a bit more work on prep.
i dunno, i'll get me thinking cap on

Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 20/11/09
im tempted to change colour, mind you after the day i had today, im tempted to shut the door on the garage for good
had a real s**t day today, im ill, havent been in the mood and got pi$$ed off, if i had walked away i prob wouldnt of gone back, bonnet is getting to me now, its too flimsey and flexes to much to do what im wanting it to do, but if i can gather enough interest to go back tomorrow it will be plan B, i will try moving the hinges back a bit more, which means cutting the rear bonnet supports off, which tbh aint a prob with the fact the bonnet will open the other way, just means if this dont work and i have to go back to standard opening bonnet i will have to make some new bits up, or go to plan C and cut more out and fit mk3 hinges
pros and cons with both types of hinges
no matter, couple pics of little to no progress

amoung all the pi$$ed off-ness i did take these pics to claim my space in max power! dont matter if i do nothing to the car now, this mod is a front pager right there!

stick with it jay - once you get past this bonnet mod you can begin the best bit ... restoring the shell back to its former glory

Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 20/11/09
well went with plan B in the end, removed the bonnet plates, trimmed them and knoning what we do now about how the hinges work, and what bonnet movment with them, we measured up and moved them right back.
filed some out of the hinge mounting holes to allow more adjustment, and re tac'ed the plates on the bonnet further back.
it was trile fitted back into the first lot of mounting holes (on the inner wings) which put the bonnet just over 3 inch away from scuttle, and it was measured to see how much movment it would have, how much it would rise and dip etc etc, and i belive it will work fine now, but when i get to move it back in place we will see, but i aint giving up, if these hinges dont work, i'll find something that does

Good work so far mate, stick at it, if its was easy everybody would be doing it
Spent an hour on mine at the weeknd got hacked off
and went inside and watched the football
bloody front suspension is sitting to high, think I'll need to alter my top mounts
Keep the Red mate, I cant believe your even thinking about changing the colour
oh, and for gods sake get yourself a decent bloody camera, I'm going crossed eyed trying to look at your pictures

i will crack it i can say that much, but i wouldnt by any means give up working on the car to watch football!
as for keeping it red, tbh, it will more than likly stay red
and as for cam, whats wrong with it

Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 20/11/09
cheers dude.
i will do the mod, but its getting to the point im going to look into other hinges.
i can get it to sit how i want, where i want, and open to the space, and angle etc i want, the only problem is the bonnet hitting the fcuking scuttle panel when you first open it, the mk2 bonnet is too flexiable imo, but i will keep on with it.
had a day out there today messing about, and its safe to say im past the point of no return to go back to a front opening bonnet
, but i had to walk away today other wise the car would of been a mangled wreck given the day ive had, it started bad, stayed bad, then got worse
still im not going back to the car tomorrow as i cant be fcuked, i will go back next weekend and it its not sorted within a day (bonnet wise) new hinges will be sorced me thinks
