Here's a test...

Does his key also lock your car? If it doesn't, try another Ford key and see if that also unlocks your car, but doesn't lock it.

Also try it from the other side - does it unlock and lock? Did his key also open your boot?

Sometimes, keys and barrels can be worn to such an extent that it does happen...

However, if you find that his key only unlocks, but doesn't lock, that could be down to the lock/barrel fitted wrongly - I've never looked into how, but I've seen it happen before. The reason it will only do it one way is because all Ford keys will lock, but only the correct one *should* unlock it. So try and another key and see. Otherwise, like I said just above, it could be wear that has caused it. I opened my next door neighbour's MK5 Escort Van years ago with my Dad's much older Orion key

It doesn't happen often though!

Scottyboi : was i just lucky to see someone with exact same key?

If you wanna call it lucky

There are alot of cars going around with the same locksets and keys, but the chances of you meeting someone with the same Key are slim :)

Try some elses keys. Used to be able to do this all the time.

My mate came round mine and I saw that his passenger door was unlockes on xr2i so I locked it and went in. When he went to go. he came back ranting someone had locked his car. opps He had lost the key and hotwired it till his dad could get the spare to him. I removed the rear qaurter and refitted it for him. No damage.

you might want to get it alarmed as i did the same thing in my old series 2 an a mate unlocked my car with the front reg plate by putting it between the window seal an glass an pushed the bar on the lock open, so i ended up getting it delocked an fitting a hidden button under the boot floor an never told anybody about it apart from the person who bought the car

theres a pin in the boot lock that can be taken out so you can use any key!! but also you can open mk3s with a pair of stilsons my mate did it to his turned the hole lock (and plastic thing you lift it with with your finger) the opposite way to the key and pop! opened up easy!!

id recomend delocking the boot but get new boot release contacts first!! lol
