Woo Hoo!!!
Today is a good day
I have had a couple of operations over the last month on the small of my back
(I wont go in to a lot of detail but I was left with a hole so big I could fit my hand in it)
I was told the other day that I could sit down again (for short periods of time) and leave the house
So after a few battery problems I got the car started and went out for a drive.
It's amazing how much you can miss driving.
So the best news is I can drive to the doctors for my daily dressing change rather than walk
The next turning point in my recovery is when I am able to go down the pub
Cheers

Thanks guys, it feels great to just get back in the car again oh and leave the house of course
Cheers dude, nothing major but the first op went wrong, and I had to go back for another to sort out an infection and a huge blood clot (the clot was that big it split my stitches
)
All they gave me was codeine phosphate
didn't do anything, i was most annoyed
Cloud Strife :Sounds like somthing pretty serious! Glad your recovering well though

I've seen pictures of people who've had the op to remove them and it's not pretty!
Hope it mends well and doesn't take too much time

Give that man a banana
Most of the nurses I have seen have said it's the biggest they have seen
As Nick said I can't sit for long but up untill the other day I couldn't sit at all.
So with a little help from a 3 metre VGA lead and my wireless keyboard and mouse I can use the net
Hopefuly be back to rights in a couple of months.
The worst part is I haven't been able to work for 10 months now and I have lost my business (thank you NHS waiting list)
But on the flip side I have been able to devote more time to the world of Photoshop

That was what it was like before it went wrong.
i have a couple of photos of it after the second operation that are in my medical records, so once I got the scanner working I will post them up.
Cheers

RIDDLERYDA ::aaah: what the hell is a pilonidal sinus?
The doctor said it's when a hair becomes in-grown and causes an infection which in turn
develops into an abcess the grows a bit then becomes a sinus (which is when it discharges itself)
The only way to deal with it is to cut it out
The picture above was after operation number 3
I will sort out the pictures after operation number 4 but be warned they are a lot worse

OMG they look so nasty after the op!
I went go-karting at the weekend and was racing with an old uni-mate of mine. At his house-party that night we were talking to some doctor friends of ours and he mentioned he'd recently had an op on his lower back - guess what, bloody pilonoidal sinus! My doc friend Sonya recommended that if you're worried about getting them to have a 'back, sack and crack' wax!
Definitely considering it after seeing those photos!
Hope it mends better this time mate

They are a lot more common than you think.
After the first op back in 2001 , I had never heard of it and was talking to a group of mates at work and turned out a couple of them had had it.
One had a perianal abscess (the anal part gives the location away)
I think the back, crack and sack is a good idea, I might wait awhile to get mine done
Cheers

acrebo :So basically it was just an ingrown hair... ya big baby!)
Big baby ? You ANY idea what they do to you ? Cut out a lump the size of a tennis ball on some people then pack it from the inside, every day the dressings are changed and have to be ripped out so it heals from the inside out. They don't let you home until you have dressings changed without passing out.
Nothing to see here...

Dammit, forgot sarcasm doesn't translate well on these forums!
Yeah I know what's involved although have never had the bad fortune to have needed it done myself.
I've had an infection whilst healing from a bone graft before though, God dammit that hurt... all down to rubbish stitching...

Cheers guys, it aint a nice thing but hopefully this is the last time
I think 3 operations over the last year and a total of 12 months off sick is taking the pee abit.
My nurse gave me the good news yesterday
Should hopefully be able to go back to work in 3-4 weeks time (as long as it stays clear of infection
)
When I get back to work then I can finish the car off
Cheers

Re: Woo Hoo!!!
Just looking over this thread and its exactly the same as what I had - similar size wound but mine didn't go wrong.
9 months and still not fully healed yet :S
Andy is totally right, it actually is as bad as he says!
