Windows Live Messenger

Postby JamieFRST on Wed Feb 25, 2009 12:22 am

When I check my email through messenger instead of opening http://mail.live.com in internet explorer it now opens Windows Live Mail program, anyone know how to change it back? I couldn't see any option in WLM. I've tried setting Windows Live Hotmail as the default on the internet explorer programs tab but that didnt work.

Either uninstall Windows Live Mail or change the default mail program through "Default Programs". Where that is depends on your OS.

WLM is set not to be the default mail program, as above Windows Live Hotmail is the default on the internet explorer programs tab. I don't want to uninstall it as I use it for gmail and pop3 accounts, but would just prefer if messenger just opened Hotmail as it always did

Default Programs in control panel, not the programs tab in IE. That just affects what IE uses to open links.

If it's not there try this - http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/2 ... Vista.html

And if that fails try this:

Change 'Default' Value from "Windows Live Mail" to "Windows Live Hotmail" at the
registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Hotmail

Change the 'Value data' from from "Windows Live Mail" to "Windows Live Hotmail"
for the Value '@C:\Program Files\InternetExplorer\hmmapi.dll,-202' at the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\LocalSettings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache

I don't think the default programs tool will work, i'm using XP SP3. The reg keys are already showing Windows Live Hotmail
