who is a ford restorer etc..... who you can reccomend?

Postby rob pace on Sat Jul 06, 2013 2:18 pm

hi guys, as you know, well who has met me im down in south london. i was due to have this work done by a well known ford restorer close to me, but he is giving up all the big jobs soon, so im a bit stuck on who to use?? so just wondering is there anyone else who is local who can do this work to a high standard who you can reccomend?? i dont mind travelling if its not overly far! :)

sorry if some of it is a bit muddled up as i copied and pasted it :P

complete basecoat / laquer re-spray of bonnet, front bumper (few medium chips on bumper), blend into wings and front arches (scuff on front arch as pictured below) :)

Image[/QUOTE]

re-spray the top of the front panel as with all mk3 fiestas paint is worn away there (well most ive owned have), fit and stamp my brand new vin tag to replace the old crusty vin tag. :)

Image

Image

drivers side rear quarter there is a spraying line down here slightly where it got keyed 10 years back, faint line but im picky. :)

Image

drivers side rear quarter there is a slight rust bubble about the size of a 10p if not smaller where my finger is behind the arch (I will remove arch when you have it) :)

Image

removing ABS, spraying non-ABS brake lines, spraying driveshafts etc...

complete removal of all the old ABS brake lines and **** ABS system, spraying my non-ABS brake lines in the olive green and fitting new gold unions, fitting nicely sprayed non-ABS brake lines onto my fiesta with a brand new brake servo, re-furbed bias valve and brand new master cylinder / resivoir :thumb:

lastly while the driveshafts are off due to ditching the ABS, rubbing down and re-painting my driveshafts I believe in the satin black they came with from factory, fitting all 4x new CV joints and fitting new genuine ford bearings in both hubs :thumb:

hi mate,

there is plough lane coach works in Sutton. they do quite a lot of work for a load of people I know with mk1/mk2 anglias escorts etc. the paint jobs always seem to come out well, but apparently they're not the quickest by any means!
I went to see them with my fiesta for all the work its having at the moment but decided not to use them as they wouldn't give me a price until the bodykit was off etc.
I have ended up using an independent welder who is doing my car to fill time between his other jobs and a sprayer recommended by him local to me.

not sure if any of that helps really!

thank you dave, there is tremona garage in Southampton who I was thinking about but was trying to find a recommendation that's closer! behind the bodykit is great as ive had it all off in the past, bar a small patch / bubble that's just a bit bigger than a 5p piece on the offside! :)

I'd recommend Tremona Garage. Their work is exceptional, they work on and have built some of the best concours cars you will ever see. It would be worth getting in touch with them, certainly the best in the business and it will be done properly. I can vouch for their workmanship.

There is another place that one of my customers is using for a concours build which is nearer to you but I can't remember who. Anson Autos in Portsmouth are very good when it comes to the paint side of things, Luca uses them and I'd recommend them.

cool think luca is doing the s1 build! I could do the brake lines / remove abs etc.... but with the illness I've had with multiple surgery's its difficult. not sure if tremona do spraying though so will find out later today! :bonkers:

There's quite a bit of bodywork there all around the car, so if you want the car to be good then it needs a complete respray IMO. It will end up like a patchwork quilt otherwise with different paint shades and thickness.

As above rob, there's 14 variants of mercury grey ranging from the almost silver to a reddish grey.

New paint under different sunlights and streetlight Can make a car look totally different shades!!!!

Q1 new can be like purple as opposed to Q1 old 20yr old paint for instance. Q14 is almost a silver/grey!!! :o

thought it was 17 shades or I may be wrong? :aviator:

that's the thing with different ages and shades you will always tell in the sunlight I guess, but I simply will not be able to afford a complete respray due to mortgage and loads of other bits etc.......

Tough decision to make then mate!!

I've seen mercury cars that have had places blown in, bumpers and bonnets painted etc and it looks quite bad, one bumper looked good in normal light from one side but when looked at from another direction it looked a mile out!!!

Can you not get one side painted?? The slam panel won't be that bad as it doesn't really follow any other lines of the car??

Rob, I would just leave it then and save up. It doesn't matter if it takes you several years, as the car is already nearly a classic. Assuming you are going to keep the car then you will get better long term value with an eventual respray rather than a patch up job now.
