Wheels???
Hey guys, just bought a set of what i thought were escort gti alloy wheels for my fiesta. They should be 15" if they came off an escort GTI but the ones i got are 16" 205/50. Obviously they are too big for my fiesta but is there anyway i could get them to fit???? i doubt it very much but i thought id ask anyway. Any help would be great.
Ohhh and because these are 205/50/R16s - are they cosworth alloys ???? If so i could sell them for more to get my money back

Re: Wheels???
the wheels are almost certainly from a Mondeo. Behind the centre car there shoul be ET and a number 25 means they are Cosworth and you should sell them on (tyre size would indicate they aren't). If they say 35 or 40 then you can use them although you will need to change the tyres for 195/40/16

Re: Wheels???
Take the old 205's off and have new 195's fitted. No problems at all.
http://www.mytyres.co.uk has Continental Sport Contact 2's at £66.50 or Pirrelli P Zero's at £68 a piece. At that price you could reshoe the rims all in for under £300. Cheap tyres aren't worth a damp fart so don't even go there

Re: Wheels???
50s will fit at standard height, still not ideal but they will work.
45s would be much better especially if u plan on lowering it.
or run 175/50s for some streeeetch

Re: Wheels???
i really cant see how stretching tyres to fit a wider rim can be at all safe!
surely the tyre will want to pull it self back to the correct shape putting undue stress on the beading area of the tyres and also if you so much as touch a curb wouldnt it provide just enough force to pop them off the seating of the wheel?
plus if you plan on doing any speed surely this again would put undue stresses through that area?

ive got 175/50 stretched onto an 8j, seems ok to me,
cornering is cool, on the random occasion wer i may hav got a bit handbrake happy its been fine, rim hits curb before tyre anyway lol! but ive hit it before and its fine.
not guna start the arguement again, if you stretch your tyres you do it out of choice, i chose 2do it and am happy to take the risk, myself and thousands of others are running stretched tyres and although im sure there is stories, i cant say ive heard of anyones tyres popping off.
alot of drift cars run stretched tyres, i dont know the science but apparantly it helps them when changing direction or something... and think of the stress they are under.
the tyre bead pops onto the rim fairly easily, once the airs in it holds well.
im running a fairly common stretch, people do stretch them more and again,,, all seems fine.
my mates got 195/45 on a 9j as his daily runner, no problem over the last few years.

unfortunatly i wrote it off
i went into the back of a rover, wasnt going fast but didnt hav bumpers on as id just had it fixed from wen someone went into me.
lack of bumpers pretty much messed up the whole front end of the car.
so now im in the jetta which is just as fun, handles like a dream, id heard people say the boot made the back end too heavy. im on the lookout for air suspension for it as part of my chassis is about 1.5" from the floor but its not low enough. so it needs to be adjustable lol.
i also hav a 1968beetle with all early panels on, 1500engine on twin carbs
