Welding

Postby Ruishy1 on Thu Oct 01, 2009 10:08 pm

I started a basic welding course a 4 weeks ago, i started off on mig, did that for 3 weeks till my lecturer said it would pass the BS coding.

Tonight i moved on to TIG, and having never done it before, after 30 mins i did a joint and asked the lecturer how it was, he asked how long i had been TIG welding for, i replied 30 mins and he looked shocked, and told me he knew guys that had been welding for over a year that didnt do welds as good :D

the amps were a tad high but other than that he was very impressed :Q

Im fair chuffed with myself.

Boast over :oooh:

Stainless Tig = piece of pi$$
Aluminium Tig = not so easy

I did a vehicle restoration course many years ago and I did enjoy the tig welding part. Without too much practice you can create some pretty neat welds.

If its Yeovil then how much has it set you back and what nights does the course run ?

i got a C&G level one course in mig welding for free 2 years ago! :D perks of a parent who used to work for job centre plus so knew about goverment funded schemes to develop your skills to aid in change in job directions etc!

one of the best things i have done, would love got do higher ones and also tig my wleding was spot on almost instantly also, although im not so good on the little migmate i have myself as it doesnt adjust tidy and doesnt help im using small gas cylinders... hopefully it may be better on pub CO2 but wont be perfect but for what i use it i cant warrent spending money on a decent one and a boc/ air products cylinder!
