time off work

Postby dude17_uk on Wed Feb 04, 2009 2:00 pm

just wondering if anyone knows anything about this, im not one to have to much time off work but I have had to have the last week off due to muscle strain while down the gym weight lifting, I went abit to far so yes my fault arm has been locked and swoolen all week etc

now my boss is very funny about time off work even if its just one day, i have the doctors note saying i need to be excused from work for a week but even with this can they sack you ?
I only ask as bit worried as i know of a boy last year who got the sack even when he produced the doctors note ?
or am i just worrying about nothing

they cant even sack you if you are self certificated, they must prove you were fit to work first, very hard thing to do

companies pi$$ me off, everyone has time off sick at some point even the boss.
as said they cant sack you, there not even allowed to give you a warning, verbal or written.

they can, unless other wise stated in your contact, refuse to pay you sick pay

na dont feel like that mate, just look at it from a boss/directors point of view. i.e, im allowed to be ill your not!
thats how a lot think and just because they come in when there ill they feel you should, nothing to do with the fact there sat on there arse in a lovely warm office all day doing hardly fcuk all while the rest of use are working like fckking or out and about in the cold etc etc etc,

fcuk them mate

citizens advice are very handy for things like this. Also check your contract and if in doubt buy a good everyday law book....I'm spouting that to everyone at the moment

good avice though, too amny people get done over by companies because they dont know their rights.

If anyone has to self cert sick notes then jsut fill it in with "Ill" if they complain tell them you are not a fudgekin doctor and that if you were well enough to see one you would have been in work in the first place.
