This is what clark sent me in a pm

knuckles :I found out the problem - the 2 plugs which connect the fuel injection rail and the ecu. they were the wrong way round. my fault
It still didnt fire up but i think that was a fuse issue or maybe the fuel injection wiring.

Mate! I did that to mine and fried my ECU! I turned on the ignition and could smell burning silicone when I was sitting in the driver's seat within ten seconds. The ECU was sitting in the engine bay at the time!

I think people thought I was pretty simple when I made that mistake, but when the loom isn't clipped in place, ECU's just placed in the engine bay for a first-time start-up, and Ford used identical pairs of connectors for the two different jobs, it's very easily done!

Its not running yet and yes i am a goon !

As heeman mentioned - the two connectors are identical, explains why the fuel pump primed before the engine was fitted. The ecu wasn't receiving power so i didn't fry it - just blew a few fuses.

Things left to do now :

Get it started !
Weld a new slam panel on and fit bonnet catch
Bleed brakes
Top up gear box oil
Fit Clifford alarm
Refit dash
Fit seat belts, trim etc

Bring it on :D

Glad you got it sorted mate. That list doesn't look like much but I don't like the pic of all the wires and no dash. I get scared of stuff like that!

I went to fords today to order yet again more stuff. Old style Ford badges are no longer availible, ordered 2 and got given 1996 badges with chrome. No thank you

Pictures :

One new Rs turbo center cap - only problem is the cap is lacquered and the wheel isn't.

Fiesta Rs turbo breather pot - finally can remove the xr2i item.

I ordered a pair of amber indicator lenses and then got given one clear and one amber. The parts guy tried telling me they only sell clear passenger side lenses now....
I obviously said that is rubbish and check the finis codes again - yes as i assumed he ordered the wrong one !

And the prices as your all dying to know :(

Rs breather - £15.67
Fuel Filter - £18.60 :o :x
Rs center cap - £11.06
Indicator lens - £16.07 (each)

Total - £87.36 with vat

Stick with it mate, this weeks bill for me was £437 - that's just for replacement trim like door seals, clips, screws and the occasional plastic part that's scuffed. You've gotta laugh or you'd cry

I'll say it again, you've done a cracking job. Has Ade seen it?

THE RS LIVES !

Faulty ecu wasnt sending the power to the injectors.

Tried different injectors , tried other looms no luck. Put the xr2i ecu in and it started 1st time :D

the only difference with the xr2i ecu (afaik) is that it has no reading for turbo pressure so after ten psi itll start to run lean and detonate

I have tried everything , including the other ofab ecu u lent me - and it still wouldnt start... then i just put xr2i ecu on and bang the fuel injectors came to life. :-?

I managed to get another ofab ecu on ebay but i hope this one works. - i payed £95 for the 1st one from a guy on passionford who said it was in good working order but that was over 4 months ago.

As already mentioned the xr2i ecu will still run the rs as normal but it wont control the boost after 10psi due to the ecu not running ofab map sensor.

Yes i have ofab as i got the loom which plugs into the ofab map sensor.

Ofac has the same map sensor as the xr2i.

H196jne - i have purchased another ofab ecu from ebay and awaiting delivery. The xr2i ecu is back on the xr2i as i still need to drive until the rs is roadworthy.

I obviously wouldnt run the rs on a xr2i ecu

Update

Right its been a while and its still not running properly but here i go :aaah:

Image

Engine bay at the moment. :D

Strut brace removed as it was getting in the way and i hate chrome. New coolant temperature switch fitted at bottom of inlet, what a nightmare.

Engine bay panels re-fitted and loom looking all nice and tidy.

Image

New K&N induction kit fitted. I was told in Burton power that K&N have discontinued this kit for the Rs turbo. Once they are gone they are gone !

Image

Dashboard Re-fitted for now ready for trip to garage. Bit messy but will do for now.

Image

The car now has both window wipers. Thanks to Ghost and his excellent workmanship. I brutally bashed out the poly filler and let him do the rest. It needs spraying properly but at least i got two wipers which i am so pleased about.

Image

New wipers fitted :Q

Image

Bumper and bonnet refitted - Bumper needs respraying

Image
Image

Check the ride height ! - - mega low with the mondy alloys.
Doesn't worry me one bit as all the arches have been butchered to have 17's :Q

Image

Thats all folks
hoping for good news tomorrow at the diagnostic center, then i can get on with getting it ready for fitp. :)

Comment welcome as usual :aviator:
