Some old skool modified FRSTs circa 1995-2000

Postby AdrianFRST on Tue Apr 05, 2005 10:10 pm

Before I got a digicam and went round the shows I used to scan pics from mags to put on the site. These are some of the cars that were around at that time.

Notice how, aside from some wheels, none of these cars look stupid even 10 years later (unlike the delta kitted crap nowadays). There's a lesson to be learnt there... ;)

Jason Ripp's first FRST, 1998. This was the first feature car to have the flush tailgate. Note how the rear bumper is a mk3 si with the slot, not the shallower mk4 item.

Image

Image

Adrian Eastbury, FRST, 1995(!). This was way ahead of it's time. First rear discs, first with the Mondeo spoiler (no copies back then, so pukka Ford one at £200 odd), first with the Cossie lip, first with 300mm front brakes.

Image

Image

Angus Munro, RS 1800, 1999. First to have the full badboy bonnet, first feature car with clear lights, still possibly the lowest ever on 17s. It's an RS 1800 K plate but with the FRST green stripe:

Image

Ian Howell, FRST, 1998:

Running 400bhp back then was unheard of. This was the first Fiesta ever with the Cossie front back in 1995 and now the first to have the fogs smoothed over. First Laguna splitter on a Fiesta too.

Image

Image

Andy Stone FRST, 2000. If you want this it's on eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 4539994651:

Image

Rav Khalon, FRST, 1999. First on Cossie wheels, note RS rear lights:

Image

Image

Image

Greig Skinner, FRST, 1998:

Image

Paul Roberts, FRST, 2000. Lotus Carlton front bumper. This car is still about but is now a wierd shade of blue :

Image

A bit later it looked like this:

You will never see a max power front cover like that again, thats for sure!

I mite have a look through my old mags and see if there are any nice frst's from that period. I know i have a perfomance ford with a nice yellow one (well bar the yellow stealths)

This car is still one of my all time favourite modified Fords - I have this very issue of Max Power somewhere, a big inspiration for my eventual purchase of a FRST (I didn't try and copy his mods though as I got carried away with the engine! )

Great post Ade! :D

I have known Rav personally for many many years and totally loved his car!! Looks absolutely AWESOME!! 8)

But i must say it was only the first to be featured with Cossie Rims as I know of another Mk3 Fiesta that has them on before his from our area. :)

Rav's car was a big inspiration for me buying the Cossie rims before - it's sad knowing that the car came to an early demise though :(

Cheers,

Jags?

TUR80 W I think it was? I've got the mag somewhere as a part of a collection I was given, but it was only a year or so ago and I've not scanned it.

As you said Ade, it's interesting to note how none of it has dated all that badly! Awesome to see some of the trendsetters for mods which are now considered the norm!

Remember all those cars from my childhood :bonkers:

Angus' white RS1800 inspired me to buy a Fez (and if i ever had another it would end up looking like it, coilovers, slammed, 17" Voodoos, no body mods) ... i remember Ian Howell's fiesta when it was first featured in Revs - when it had the standard FRST bumbers on it and the first naughty engine ... i can also remember the 'Evil Type Rs' first feature in Max Power back in '97 or so, standard bodywise except a gold stripe instead of green and the small matter of 250bhp from the CVH

They all still look fantastic :aviator:

Much better than the pap you see these days

Found the mags with Adam Hanley's car, and also a copy of Fast Car with Ian Howell's Fiesta when it was on 16' Team Dynamics Qualifier alloys, will post pics of those tomorrow. For now, possibly the first modified Fiesta Mark 3 in a magazine, check the date, 1989!!!
Also for the youngsters out there, the XR2 racer on the far left is sporting headlamp stickers which were the instigators of the now legendary "bad boy" bonnets.

Excellent. I have this issue of Max Power aswell. :D This is the car that made me fall in love with the FRST. I was reading this the other week as a motivational tool so I didn't want to sell mine.

Best FRST ever featured in any mag.

Can't be arsed with all these new bodykits and bad boy bonnet toss. This is about as far as you should go with body mods.

Adrian Eastbury, FRST, 1995(!). This was way ahead of it's time. First rear discs, first with the Mondeo spoiler (no copies back then, so pukka Ford one at £200 odd), first with the Cossie lip, first with 300mm front brakes.

Image

Wow what a rewind :Q

I bought mine (FRST) July 1995 when i was a mere 17 years old. I can remember buying that very issue , it used to be a pretty good read. Stunning car and it was Castle Performance that did the engine mods (who i later went on to use) due to that very feature.

Happy times

I really want to be young again :(

I remember those days, when Max Power was about tuned cars not fibre glass abortions that couldn't take the skin off your rice pudding. How that magazine has gone down the pan :(

Revs started well, rememerb doing the Fiesta Thrash at Alconbury when we first had the XR2i and the 0-60 and ¼ mile thrashes there. Then that one went down the pan as well :(
