muz :To clear this up it is ILLEGAL to serve snakebite. When I started at Wetherspoon and had my induction we were told about it. Apparently it speeds up your heartrate and some bloke had a heatattack and died in some pub from it. Appart from that, its illegal to serve any drink which isn't brewery reccomended. IE a drink which isn't registerd to be sold, where as cocktails are. At spoons we aren't even allowed to sell someone a cup of coffee and a shot of bailies so they can't make an irish coffee as its not on our menu, let alone a half cider and black and half a lager with a pint glass.
Which as I have said is down to the brewery making a decision, there is no law passed to stop these sales, why does no one ever listen to me....

It's not illegal, it's at the pub manager's discretion, which is why only some places serve it

Nearly..... but entirely wrong drink
Redbull & Vodka is *supposed* to give heart problems to people who drink loads of it.
Vodka (alcohol...) slows down your heart...
.... and Redbull (energy drink) speeds up your heart. (In short.)
Now, put the two together in a glass, as you can see some potential probems arising.
Although the theory has *never* been proven, and obviously Redbull deny it, there is much floating about the net on it - the BBC have a couple of articles, as did some health-scare website I saw.
It is claimed some people in Sweden have died from this mixed drink, along with a UK student too. But, again, nothing was ever proven.

Cant be arsed to read it all, but it isn't illegal to drink at all, but the bars / pubs dont like to mix drinks, due to the amount of trouble that usually ensue's after groups of people drinking snakebite for example.
I've been drinking Rocket reef (hanf a pint of strongbow and a ottle of reef) for years, but always have to order a pint of bow, two bottle of reef and an empty glass, then mix them myself.

I was having this discussion a few nights ago too, a mate reckons its illegal and I think he's talking s**t. He made a good point though, even if it has nothing to do with it, when you mix lager and cider together (both clear drinks) it goes cloudy. Apparently. He reckons this is some kind of chemical reaction and this makes you violent.

Re: Snakebite
It is illegal to serve snakebite in england this is due to measurements alcohol can only be legally served in set allowances ie 25/35ml for spirits 1/2 2/3 or pints of larger cider etc 125ml 250ml for wines. this is all to do with unit calculation freepouring is illegal in bars and restaurants unless the bartender has attended a cocktail course. with snakey you are usuall free pouring the cider and larger therfore not measuring it properly by pouring half a larger half a cider then mixing it in an empty glass you are not breaking any laws. also some venues do not like to serve this drink as it is not always easy for there computer operated tills to charge for it 2 halfs and a dash can cost around £5 on a pre loaded till.
my favorite snakey is calsburg and koperberg pear cider with a dash of absolute blackcurrent vodka more of a kobra bite though lol

Re: Snakebite
random as f**k. also you contradict yourself, you say its illegial to serve, then go on to say its only illegial if freepoured, which is true. So if measured right then its not illegial is it? I can't think of anywhere where it would cost £5, unless they are charging £2.50 a half lol. So basically your post was sheer nutsack.

Re: Snakebite
Yet weather spoons serve vodka redbull where the vodka constricts the arteries and rebull increases heartbeat! That will give you a heart attack a million before a snake bite will. I think the reason the old boy died was because he was drinking in weatherspoons lol!
