i've got sky at the moment and was wondering if anyone knows if a sky hd box will work as a direct replacement of the original one? i don't have sky+ but would like to run it through a hdmi cable. i would be looking to buy a second hand box and hopefully just plug it in and run normal sky through the hd box.

You won't notice much gains unless you subscribe to the HD service, but yes, the box should be a direct replacement.

I don't think the HD box upscales SD content, but if I were you I'd pay and get the subscription - at least then your box has a warranty.

Not a direct replacement, a second cable is required to view one program while watching another. You will receive a couple of HD channels fta but it is more worthwhile getting a brand new box (i've replaced a lot on service calls!) and the hd sub
