Simon84uk's Zetec-S (Daily) Project
I know this won't interest 99% of you
, as it's a Zetec-S this time but I'm starting this thread for myself really, so I can track what went on when I was rebuilding my new daily drive.
I recently (end Nov-2013) purchased a knackered Panther Black Mk5 Zetec-S off ebay. Wouldn't normally take on another project as not completed my main one yet, but it was local and went for next to nothing.
Here is the advert text:
Pics from the advert, haven't taken any myself as of yet.

After collecting he said a previous owner had done a cam-belt change and stupidly forgot to tighten the bottom pulley
! Which of course bent all the valves up. Also mentions alloys are in "fair" condition, but seem pretty decent once I collected it.
Problems identified so far:
- Engine is fubar'd
- OSR Arch rust
- Little damp inside
Parts list so far:
- Engine or 1.7 Puma conversion parts
- Arch repair panel
- Body filler (should have some left)
- Paints: primer, colour and lacquer (might have some of these left over)
- G3 cutting compound (have some about)
- Polish (again should have some about)
Haven't decided on which engine route to go down still... would only be really a daily car but I had a Puma for a while a few years back and did feel pretty damn nippy. Having never driven a working Zetec-S I don't know if that 25bhp difference is even noticeable
Had it trailered to mine about a week or so later by my mate who transported my RS many times, so knew it was in safe hands

Advert text :Ford fiesta zetec s bought as project but not got the time or enthusiasm
No mot or tax
Will need trailering away
Spares or repairs
Bottom pulley came undone and has damaged pistons and valves etc
Needs new engine !
Has rust on o/s arch rest of bodywork ok for age
Wheels are in fair condition with two good tyres and too that are just legal
Also has stainless exhaust which is quite new
Would consider selling wheels or exhaust separately for right price
Cash on collection

Re: Simon84uk's Zetec-S (Daily) Project
Managed to find a few hours Sunday afternoon to start stripping the engine down ready for removal.

First off I attempted to charge the battery, but well and truly Dead
! Going to need a new one of them then.

So it was off with the bonnet for some easy access, battery out, airbox out, inlet manifold off nothing particularly interesting tbh.
However upon inspection cylinder #1 at top - fine, cylinder #4 at top - fine, cylinder #2 at top?
unless I'm very mistaken cylinder 2 should be at the bottom with #3! It is at a slight angle though so I suspect it's sheared from it's rod or rod from crankshaft.

Doesn't matter anyway as I've now sourced a complete puma conversion from Puma-Bits
Ian was very helpful on the phone and should be delivered in time for the weekend. Going to need to sort service parts & fluids though.
Also noticed the paint on the drivers mirror was flaking off so going to need to repaint or get another one of those, and some scratches on the passenger side also. Whilst on the mirror topic, need to re-attach the rear view mirror as this seems to have been in the glovebox

There is also some bubbling/pitting on the spoiler so need to fill & repaint that at some point.
Jobs/parts list so far:
- Engine or 1.7 Puma conversion parts
- Arch repair panel
- Body filler (should have some left)
- Paints: primer, colour and lacquer (might have some of these left over)
- G3 cutting compound (have some about)
- Polish (again should have some about)
- Dry out interior and check for leaks
- New battery
- Service parts & fluids
- Pair of door mirrors or repaint
- Re-attach rear view mirror
- Fill & paint spoiler
