That's the thing - I don't **wanna** break it - I wanna get a cheap EFi model and swap the bitz over. But then, how much do you reckon I'll get for the shell, etc???

Not a great deal, I'd say.

Oh fer fook's sake, I dunno.

I bought a lottery ticket for the first time in ages - I'm really down 'cos I've just had a string of s***ty luck with this car. Thing that makes me down is the fact that it really is bad luck - same failure 4 times in a row now (oil starvation probs) - all caused by different reasons:-

* Aug 18th - 1.1HCS: blown head gasket sends oil into engine bay at speed. Engine seizes at 90mph.
* Dec 19th (on way to squadron xmas party which I then miss) - engine sends conrod through bottom of sump and top-front-side of block after big end bearing failure due to oil starvation.
* Mar 4th - blocked head coolant pipe causes head to warp - head gasket fails, oil overheats, destroying big end bearings and killing oil pressure. Takes 21 hours to complete journey from London to Stoke.
* Mar 13th - New engine fitted at cost to me of over £400 - £235 to fit, £110 for engine, £40 on oil, £30 on oil flush, filters, anti-smoke and anti-rattle treatments, anti-freeze, new gaskets, sump plug, distributor (yes, that blew up too), leads, oil cap, etc etc etc.
* Mar 19th - car stalls and refuses to restart while mate is borrowing it to see a friend (I was installing his ICE at the time). He tries to restart it - seized engine causes short circuit in starter motor. Connect to LandRover to jump start and fireworks display ensues. Battery (£75), alternator (£80, new 3 months ago), and starter motor (£??) all irrepairably damaged (battery was boiling over!).

Why the fu*k me???

I dunno.

Fords - Forever On Ramps Dismantled.

Little bastid >:-/

At the end of the day, I might do this:-

* Buy an XR2i, or something along those lines.
* Swap over all the good bits (interior, boot, skirts???)
* Sell what's left.

But then, I don't want a car with the 2i skirts... oh fer fook's sake.

As it is, right now, the car's worth a lot more to me than it is in cash. Once I've taken everything I want, it'll prob be worth around £750... maybe.

I'm gonna hold on for a couple of days until I know more about my chances of getting hold of an old 2i. Has anyone got one???

tough luck m8
it's been the other way round for me, i wanted to sell mine and get a 2i but i've been forced to spend that much on it i can't afford to sell it!
i reckon you should keep it, after all you've spent a lot of time and money on it and you're not gonna get much for it as it is. if you get it running though why sell it?
catch 22

if you decide to break it though, i'd be interested in the springs and some interior goodies
Ohhhhhhh...

Right, the car definitely *won't* be getting sold for at least another 2 months.

After that, I'm gonna work down this list and the first people to reply will get first refusal, so if you're at the top of the list, I'll contact you first (unless you've vanished).

FYI The shell is a 1991 J-plate Pacifica blue 1.1 carb'd Bonus.

The interior was L-spec, i.e. minimal trim. It is now XR2i spec plus loads of goodies (push button start, white dials, silver and blue everything, remote 6x9s control, 2 halogen spot lamps on A pillars, leccy window and lamp control switches at front of centre console (i.e. under handbrake), Momo gearknob, XR2i steering wheel, blue velour mats to match seats, oil pressure and voltage gauges - the list goes on and on (and so can I ). Sounds are a 12" sub in sealed enclosure with 6x9s on MDF rear shelf and 10cm components squeezed into corner of rear quarter panels....

s***, now I've talked myself into *not* selling it!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

Feck!
