I can remember when these came out :)

Often I would see one being driven on the roads around where I live :o :o :o

Anybody seen one of the Clarkson dvds when he drove one with over 700bhp :Q

He did have a slight off in it as well iirc

The red one is the gearstick and the larger one is used to switch between rear wheel drive or 4 wheel drive.

There looks to be not enough leverage on the small red stick to select from 5/6 gears, and logic would tell you the smaller stick would be 2wd/4wd switch rather than a massive lever. Plus on this website: http://pshoey.com/peter/rs200.htm the photo of the interior doesn't have two sticks, just the larger one.

Many cars have gearsticks the size of the one in the RS200, for example the Toyota MR2. Hardly any leverage is needed when changing gears. Also if you look at the driving position of the seat and steering wheel the longer stick would be awkward to use.

I would of thought the mechanical process of changing a car between 2wd/4wd would involve more resistance and leverage than the changing of gear.

As for the one on that website, it's a replica. "The EVO200 RS200 replica pictured in all it's glory."

As Fiend pointed out, the link you posted is to a replica. Therefor it is only RWD thus not having the selector.

There's a reason I posted a replica - the replica would have the small red stick rather than the large gear selector.

If the car is a replica, then as far as possible it would be as close to real life as possible, therefore IF the small red stick is the gear selector, it will be the same on the replica. In any of Ford's performance models they have never fitted a gear lever as small as that.

Let me try to explain it more:

RS200 - two gear levers - one small, one large
Replica - one gear lever, only large

You'd expect the replica to be able to change gear rather than just shift between 2wd and 4wd, therefore by this logic the larger stick must be the gear shift, but then I've never driven one, so I wouldn't know.

I was lucky enough to the other day....

You're actually all wrong...

You change gear...

By saying "UP" for the next and "DOWN" for the previous!!

Black is for gears:

I believe the red stick controlled the torque split. There were three settings on the RS200; you could either have RWD only, 4WD (66% rear and 34% front) or 4WD (50/50 split).
My name is Alex. I used to have a Capri. I don't anymore. But I'm still called Capri.

Thanks for clearing that up Alex - I had a feeling that was correct as the small red lever was in the totally wrong place as a gear lever.
