Poor starting due to delayed spark

Postby TheBiscuit on Tue Sep 20, 2016 7:05 pm

Hello all,
I am hoping someone can give me some idea what's going on with my engine. It's been the same since I bought the car last year. Almost every time I go to start up the engine takes around 2 to 3 seconds to fire. I've put a strobe light on the plug leads and noticed that there's no spark for those first few seconds and then as if by magic it then starts to spark and the engine fires up. On the odd occasion she start on the first turn of the key.
It makes no difference weather the engine is cold or hot.
The starter spins well and the battery is well charged.
I've changed the EDIS and coil pack but that made no difference.
It's almost as if the EDIS is waiting for a signal from the ECU before it will make the coil pack fire.
I thought that if it's the ECU at fault the EDIS would revert to limp home mode and spark anyway. Or maybe not?
I'm getting concerned about bore wash and premature wear of the engine so would really appreciate any advice.
Cheers.
