What software is there available that you can use to check the setup on your car to make sure things are running right. I.E. On a laptop whilst driving. This is just out of curiosoty.

There is come software floating about, but 99% of the software is proprietry, which the manufacturers don't want the public to see. I knew someone who modded his in-car PC to the ECU - it was part of his Dissertation in Computer Science.... and he had to write most of the software himself. He connected the ECU with a serial port, and somehow (fcuk knows how!) worked out all the possible (well, nearly all) combinations of electical signals - which is used for diagnosis. He then wrote software to decode these signals, and send different ones back.

He went one step further, and messed around with air/fuel mixture - which could be changed at the touch of a button (well, touch on the screen...).

Good luck in finding some - but check our MP3Car or similar forums.
