Re: My zetec turbo * Summer Shows/Broken Gearbox*
Update
Took out my broken CTS stage 1 gearbox and now i have a nice new CTS stage 2 to take its place,

umm quaife ATB diff, should hopefully transform the way the car drives aswell as gettim ny 1/4 mile times down

seeing the gearbox was off i had a look at the state of the clutch and im glad i did, its only doen 4k but its seems like its had a hard life

the pressure plate

i was thinking about just replacing the actual clutch and not the pressure plate but people say its prob worth just to replace the whole kit. once the gearbox is back on i dont want to have to pull it off again to sort out the clutch again. so in the next few weeks ill be getting another clutch kit then the box can be fitted.
also i got a triple gauge holder from carbontecshop.com

i had to get the matt carbon design as i think the shiney version would have looked abit too tacky, i will also be keeping my double a piller gauge holder so will be have 5 autometer gauges, boost, oil pressure, oill temp, water temp and volts
next on the list is 2 spare alloy wheels and some toyo 888 tyres so i can actually get some grip when lauching off the line at the pod.
i really am looking at getting into the 12 sec 1/4. i ran a 13.5 on my 1st ever run and that was on s**t tyres and the lower arm bushes were completly worn and as a result i had a stupid amount of axle tramp and wheel spin, now all these issues have been sorted with new lower arms and the whole front end polybushedi think its possible.
im aiming for central day @ the pod on 20th april, cant wait

Makes sense to change the clutch. New gearbox and tyres should help a lot, best of luck dude

Clutch looks alright to me mate, plenty of life on that for an AP 4 paddle.
I so agree though it does make sense to change it whilst the gearbox is out.

Re: My zetec turbo * New Gearbox, Worn Clutch*
Even though I've just read Mark's said just the same... - from the pics you've taken and posted at least, your clutch components don't look to me as though they need replacing
The friction plates in particular look just fine, with lots of meat left in them. I did about 8-9,000 on mine I think, and had all the pads replaced, but they were only around half-worn I would say. Granted, I have less power, but mine's been launched a whole host of times and was still wearing well.
New gearbox will be nice, but at least judging by your pics, the cost of replacing that lot wouldn't be worth it IMO

Re: My zetec turbo * New Gearbox, Worn Clutch*
I know that the 4 paddles doesnt come with a lot of meat on them from new but its does have a few hot spots on it and i really dont want to have to fit a new clutch once the gearbox is back on. Ive been thinking bout whether or not i should replace it, even took it to work to try and get some extra opinions. i even phoned up AP to see if they can just replace the friction pads for me cos i know u had your replaced FOC Heeman.
i think just for piece of mind and reliability ill get a whole new kit, as the last few times my release bearing had started to whine

Do as you will dude, looks to me it'll be wasted money though. My pads were replaced FOC for a reason matey, I wouldn't expect them to it for anyone who felt like it.

Re: My zetec turbo * New Gearbox, Worn Clutch*
And those of us who know wouldn't be saying what we are if £300 was the equivalent to a 6" Subway and a cookie! From the pics at least, it looks fine for at least another 5,000 miles to me, and I doubt the pressure plate requires replacing. Photo's can always be deceiving, so maybe it's worth having someone in the know inspect it all (only someone who has experience with paddle clutches), but from the pics, I would say you have no problems there. £300 is around 2,000 miles of fuel in that, so I wouldn't chuck it away unnecessarily.

Re: My zetec turbo * gone*
it will soon be back. All disguised as an RST. I wash the shell twice a week with autoglym shampoo and shammy it and have given it a nice polish up 3 times already. Cleaned the bay out completely with Gunk last weekend. I have 75% of the interior parts, engine, loom, wheels, new ford tanks for the bay and loads of little niggly bits. A big thing holding the interior up is the seat mounts. I'm really desperate for some mk3.5 ones but nobody seems to have any for sale
Oh well, i am sure it will all turn up in the next few weeks. Cracking open a big tin of red hammerite tomorrow for the underside of the car and the arches
So yeah, its been put to good use

and your old engine from the escort
I cleaned the whole lot up during the week. Looks pukka!! The carbon inlet is now fitted along with the rocker cover. Must admit, you done a smashing job on the inlet mate, its a credit to you
Going to take the gearbox back out of the car tomorrow and get it prepped and ready for some fresh silver paint
Really looking forward to having it back on the road

Re: My zetec turbo * gone*
i have got nearly everything, just the case of getting hold of little bits. Things that are holding me are up the seat runners (which are a bloody nightmare) and few little niggly interior bits, plus rad intercooler, turbo, tyres etc etc. I am getting my wheels refurbed and powder coated in gloss black for free so thats always a good sign
