Re: my si 2.0 project, new runabout fiesta lx now xr2i rep
got a small update here, finally got the xr2i bodykit fitted and stuck on and got another n/s front arch in white to match, jam lowered it for me, its 35mm on pi front springs and gmax rear springs and brand new rear dampers, new spark plugs and tappets were also done, and ive just ordered some new wishbones for it as they badly worn
the bad news i had been waiting for the v5 to come through since march and finally on tuesday i got a letter from the dvla about the car saying it had been a insurance write off and requires a v.i.c check
im pretty sure it had been written off due to the large dent it had in the bonnet which would probably cost more than the car is worth to repair so it was written off probably was vandal damage i reacon, so ive sent off the form hoping to get it booked in for the v.i.c check so i can get the v5
£41 more plus day insurance to get it there though
anyways heres some pics

ive still gotta put some carpet mats inside too

really gotta get thsoe remains from the side strips off as well

Don't rely on getting day insurance for getting your VIC done - a lot of them won't insure cars that old as I found out recently!
You may have to insure it properly.
Can't knock it for a runaround, though... Little bit more work and it'll be lovely

If you're getting your VIC check done at a local MOT center, you wont need insurance - if you get stopped Police will ask you for the details of the center and will ring to comfirm it and then let you on your way - done this a few times with no problems at all

that not ture im afraidit says on the form the car must have valid insurance and mot to go to the vic centre which is not a mot place its a vosa place but u don't have to have tax on it though
not worth the risk as i drive for living
To drive to a Pre-Booked VIC check, your car MUST be Roadworthy with a valid MOT and have valid Insurance. You are ONLY covered to drive to and from the VIC Testing Station, but you can drive straight to a DVLA Taxing station to tax the vehicle after the test on the same day, making sure you keep the VIC pass certificate to hand whilst traveling there (You'll need it and your insurance certificate to TAX it anyway). I did this when I got my BMW and its a bit of hassle but worth it in the end.
Liking the run-around, should be sweet when its done

Ah fair enough
you were rite dude its all changed recently they have put the age up from 21 - 24 years old for day insurance so i had to take outa years policy 3 weeks early oh well never mind
small update here, well the xr2i rep passed the vic check last tuesday which im happy about and as said above although i couldn't get day insurance on the day to take it to the vosa for the test due them putting the age up 3 years
i haven't done much to the xr2i rep recently its got 2 new wishbones on it and after 3 hours in sunny costa del chelmsford, i got all of the remaining bits off the side of the car from the side strips and fitted and cleaned the standard airbox i got for it, and degreased the engine bay, using ASDA all purpose cleaner and the dirt came off a treat so im not spending £6 a time on gunk anymore cheap 40p stuff from ASDA does the job just as good
and ive also fitted a new pair of si door cards with arms rests to the front doors as well
few pics

Re: my si 2.0 project, new runabout fiesta lx now xr2i rep
well the si has come to the end of the road
its got a leaking power steering and yesterday it got really hot and was loosing water about a litre a day i think the stat is the problem so though it was best to take it off the road and store it before it does any damage, (or leak anything else) as i can't bothered with fixing it atm... so i have decided to put the xr2i rep on the road early for about 2 years to get insurance lower for the future
heres some pics ive nicked off people who got pics of my si at fitp 2009

last pics of the si after a good clean on saturday at costa del braintree essex

now is in storage at my nans
the xr2i rep on the road now, hopefully will be reliable and save me lots of money

update
ive been doing some work on the xr2i replica runabout car
fitted better condition boot as the other one was so rotton
fully underseal it
had floot welded as it had a tiny hole
fitted new Jvc front door speakers and rear Edge component speakers with tweeters in parcel shelf
mk4 rear wiper arm
and twin boot lights

also had the single point injection unit replaced and cranksensor exhaust welded, new rear wheel bearing, 2 new tyres,
handbrake sorted and tracking done
just needs a new cv gaitor on the offside and gmax shocks to replace the standard front shocks
heres some new pictures

the 2.0 si is just sitting in the garage atm and will be for some time the only things i have bought for it are a new thermostat, 1.8 16v xr2i alternator bracket as im having it converted from powersteering to non powersteering, and early mk3 bigger boot struts

just had a little bit more work done to it, new cv gaitor, full 40mm gmax kit put on it, tracking and new exhaust manifold gasket. Also ordered new gearbox mounts and once there fitted a new mid section exhaust as i think there the cause of the exhaust snapping all the time and i also fitted a black pin strip for the front and rear bumpers

yeh whenever i get back in the si and take it out of the garage the steering wheel feels so much more sporty compated to the runabout, may change it but not sure atm gotta sort the gearbox mounts and get a new mid section for it (btw i proposed to the mrs in late july

Re: my si 2.0 project, new runabout xr2i rep si no more :(
small update here on my 2.0 si
the car wasnt running very well just before i took it off the road the temperature gauge nearly hit the red so i decided to take the car off the road that day to prevent further damage
at the moment when running it misfires the exhaust puffs and wobbles and the oil cap now has white mayonaise look to it so im pretty sure its cooked the headgasket
so far since being off the road ive changed the thermostat and put in some genuine ford ht leads which made no difference
but on the plus side the power steering leak has stopped leaking
:| well all the fluid has leaked out now anyway
the steering is rock solid
im ditching the power steering all together (less chances of leaks plus has a better feel for the road)
so i have got to buy
buy a new genuine ford headgasket set
samco hoses ( new hoses less chances of leaks)
new anti freeze
oil filter
oil 5w 30
cam belt
xr2i 1.8 16v alternator belt
manual column
rs turbo steering rack
so far i have the 1.8 16v xr2i alternator bracket

im going to clean it up and paint it ready for the conversion
plan is once the cylinder head is off to be skimmed is to do the steering conversion
heres a few pics of the si in the garage

and the oil cap

the runabout car has good but needed a few more parts to make it better
new temperture gauge sender
new drive belt and alternator belt
new geabox mounts and brand new exhaust
and complete gmax 40mm kit now fitted
cv gaitor
detail strips on the bumpers all fitted
drives really well now heres a few pics

just gotta find all the parts now
