Had a busy couple of days on the car with it up on the ramps :) I've been doing all the horrible "forgotten jobs" that crop up in a project such as this - you have a lovely idea of how your conversion will pan-out but you forget all the fiddly, crappy jobs that need doing that are unrewarding and mundane!

Firstly, I sorted the gearshift issues by moving the whole assembly back about 10mm which now allows gearchanges without the lever mech hitting the trim!

After that I made a heatshield/cover for the exposed mechanism. (Was all sealed around the edges later on).

Image

Image

The MK5 Fez PAS cooler was mounted somewhere where there's still actually some space! :oooh: It's all plumbed in now and all pipes suitably P-Clipped out of harm's way.

Image

Both driveshafts were sent off to Recoprop to be shortened today - they should be back with me within a couple of weeks and fitted :)

Image

I also took delivery of a Focus RS MAP sensor today but still sren't sure what boost-control solenoid to use :-?

I collect the ECU from my mate, Si in Kent this weekend and have already begun sorting connectors etc for all the sensors etc to be connected and for the loom to be made.

I still need to work out where to site the PAS reservoir and fab a take-off plate for the feed to the pump (using Fiesta ST MK6 Pump which uses a reservoir that bolts on top of the pump but my bonnet won't clear it that way! )

Also need to get hold of a Focus MK1 2.0 loom/Ecu to drive my Dash (fun, fun, fun! :aaah: )

Still need to buy an uprated 255lph fuel pump (save that till next payday now...)

We're moving towards the home-straight now and things are looking good :aviator:

Will be a good month or two due to being skint after Christmas/New Year! :( Yeah just one huge silencer (it's a Mongoose Fiesta RS Turbo full system with just the "engine-end" modified to fit mine so should be about as loud as a FRST running a Mongoose and no louder (hopefully! :oooh:  )

I dont think jimmy is making mega boost crazycage, IIRC the power is being kept conservative,so the 2.5 should be adequate.

jimmy there may be more powerful cars out there, but none as unique as yours :)

Cheers guys, all info is welcome, especially when it's based on people's own experiences. I'll see how things pan out with the Mongoose on :oooh: .

I don't want more than 300bhp (No sweat for a 2.3 with a GT28 :aviator: ) from this car as I want to keep it as a useable "comfy" car that can still be fun for the odd track day. There's a fair few ZT fezzers and some insane CVH's that put out more than mine and grab the headlines with amazing performance but that's not what I'm after. I'm doing this purely just to try a different route and get the Duratec-HE lump performing in an old MK3 :)

Just found out that I'm off back to work in Catterick, North Yorkshire for a month (25th Jan-22nd Feb) so better get what I can done up until then! :oooh:

Another step towards completion - I now have the ECU! :D

Megasquirt V3

Image

dangerousdave - yep you were right about the on-board 21 psi MAP sensor! :P No bother though, I'll still use the FRS one that I bought for the signal to run the boost gauge on the FRS dials...

Image

It was originally bought by a good friend who was going to put a Golf 1.8 20v Turbo lump into his MK1 but has since sold the engine and consequently didn't need this anymore. He sold it to me for £100 which was a Godsend just after the Christmas blowout! :oooh:

Luckily the Golf also uses C.O.P ignition and this is already mapped for that so hopefully it shouldn't be too much hassle setting this up to run my Ford C.O.P setup. :-?

Luckily there's a big Megasquirt site with lots of helpful forums and as I'm an Electronics Technician by trade, this hopefully won't prove too difficult! :aaah:

Apparently I need to change a transistor for a more powerful one to drive the Ford ISCV that I'm using as the Megasquirt is normally used for stepper-motor type idle valves :-?

Also, I was hoping to fit a boost control solenoid and I'm sure I have to add another driver for that too:-?

Ah well, I love a challenge!

i dunno, it wasnt me that bought it, was my mate.
Got it from USA, was the higher spec innovate kit for a little less than over here.
More kit for roughly the same or a little less.
Know what i would go for.
Ive bought other bits from ebay.om, and its always been cheaper than over here, unless its for large items in which case HMRC usually gets a cut.
