Cheers buddy - I should be ok in the workshop until new year then I'm going to try and get a lockable cage in the multistory car park on camp, failing that I have my drive but no garage.
If all those fall through I'll be in touch, thanks again for the offer and the encouragement:wink:

Glad to hear you dident sell the car! Would have been a real shame to see a car like yours go to some one who wouldent take good care of it, to many clasic and special cars are getting broken for parts by people looking to make a quick buck!
Even if the car sits for a few years, as long as it kept in the dry its gona be smiling back at you whever you get a chance to work on it

Re: Moondust K-Reg MK3 2.3 Duratec Turbo
Cheers again guys
The new job I'm going to is still in the same brigade I'm in now so will still be on the same camp - just in a different building. I reckon I can keep it in the Workshop until at least new year so hopefully I can get all the remaining "under-car" work done before then in the warm with the use of the ramps etc...
After that there's the option of the multi-storey on camp (but only if I can get one of the lockable cages to put it in - people's cars seem to get trashed there if left for too long
).
I have my own drive at my house and it's now got space as the VW Camper has been moved to the Sgt's mess multi-storey (it's 35 years old and I don't need it rotting to oblivion!) so I could put the Fez there (1km from workshop though
) or on my drive (could get stolen while we're all at work and my drive is on a slope so will be a pain in to get the non-runner up it
)
Whatever happens I'm cracking on with this and will finish it - thanks again for all the offers of space, I'm very grateful but I think I'll have it sorted either on camp or at my house

What you like Jim lol, thought you where going to have a manj moment then and sell up.
Can take into account though your concerns, its a utter pain in the ass been in the army and trying to do a project, people just won`t leave you alone to get on with it lol. Been on with my RS2k now for 3 years but just sacked it now till May next year and I am out, gardening leave and a bit of my lump sum should see it finished properly.
When your car got damaged, grips my s**t some peoples attitudes especially when it comes down to point collecting on some random visit.

I've been chipping away at it since I've returned from North Yorkshire and have set aside a couple of days after the festive madness to make some more progress.

Re: Moondust K-Reg MK3 2.3 Duratec Turbo
Right chaps I'm well and truly back in the saddle!
Had a busy couple of days in the workshop and things have progressed a little.
Firstly, a pair of new Toyos have been fitted on the front rims to replace the knackered Yokos that were on there.
From my previous updates you'll remember my stroke of luck with the "scrapyard special" Focus TDDi hard boost pipes
Basically they fitted my setup almost perfectly and I was happy with that. I did try joining them together with coupling hose and jubilee clips but it made things look too cluttered and unprofessional for my liking
I decided to weld them together instead and here's the results;
Boost/induction pipes welded together and dummy-fitted;

Removed and sprayed with black lacquer;

Re-fitted once paint dry;

Finally got around to removing the old standard (HUGE!) fuel filter and fitting my nice little Sytec "bullet" anodised filter;

As I just want to get the car running and on the road ASAP I renewed my knackered MK3 lower arms with some new MK 3.5 items - (I will buy some fany adjustable rose-jointed items but I just can't justify shelling out £2-300 right now). I needed MK3.5 ones as I'm using hubs from a 1995 Fiesta Si and I had filed down the original MK3 ball-ends to fit the later hubs when I dummy-fitted the driveshafts etc and didn't want to run the risk of forgetting I'd done it and venturing out on the road!

After what seemed like an age, I managed to find an original rubber bumper splitter on ebay for a couple of quid (mine was wrecked). This was fitted and my smaller number plate is now below the FMIC. ( I will be getting a different FMIC or re-manufacturing that one to make it more central once I've got the car running).

This last job was one of those boring, tedious affairs that you never really feel any reward for doing
The original cradle that goes under the gearbox was useless with the MK3 Mondeo rear gearbox mount in place and although I no longer required the cradle for gearbox mounting purposes I still need it for the front towing-eye and to keep much-needed strength/rigidity in the car. I chopped the original cradle and modified it to clear the gearbox mount, whilst still retaining ample strengh/rigidity.

Apologies if anyone has tried to read through this topic and noticed that all the old pics have gone! Basically I made separate photobucket albums for each car I've had to avoid confusion/clutter. When/if I'm ever bored enough I'll go back thorough and re-post all the pic links
Happy new year all of you, have a top 2010!

Yeah pretty much
Had to take the o/s driveshaft off today as it's just a tad too long and butts into the back of the "socket" part that the tripod slides into, need to get 15mm taken off it to allow it to move freely and not suffer a catastrophic failure on the road!
ECU should be bought soon - had to postpone my original purchase due to Christmas spending, I won't put a car before my family and I won't get in debt (probably why this project's taking so long!
Other than that, just ecu + wiring, 255LPH fuel pump, dash wiring and some power steering plumbing. Oh yeah the gear lever mechanism needs moving back about 10-15mm to allow all gears to be selected without it fouling the trim. We're getting there eventually...

doesnt sound too bad mate, you having new shafts made or just turning them down? i have been enqiring about megasquirt and running C.O.P from this system they say its tricky but can be done and also you can run the vw ones as a wasted spark setup, maybe even the duratec ones too.... nice cheap setup there mate...

Funny you should say that mate - a mate has just sold his 20v turbo VW engine and has let me have his brand-new Megasquirt V3 for £100

there is a guy on ebay sells rose joints, make a jig up using a lower arm to get the positions, then just start fabbing

with the cradle, would it not of looked better to get another one and make the longer one out the 2 so it all looks the same ish? then mod the end to fit as needed.
not saying what you have done is not good enough, but thought you would of done this going by your attention to detail with the rest of the motor

Re: Moondust K-Reg MK3 2.3 Duratec Turbo 31/12/09
After recovering from the mother of all hangovers, I got in touch with a very helpful guy (Eddie) who maps/builds Megasquirt V3's in Colchester
I'm collecting the V3 from a mate in Kent this week and Eddie is going to change it from the VW/Audi 20V Turbo map to a map that will hopefully get my Duratec burning and turning!
I know there's some brand-name snobbery in the car modifying world and some people sniff at using Megasquirt but at the end of the day, if it's mapped properly and set up correctly there's no reason it can't run an engine as well as Omex, Gotech etc... I'm saving a hell of a lot of money going down this route too, which is never a bad thing!
Yeah good idea mate, might just do that at a later date
. Once it's running and on the road I can then turn my attention to developing it further, until then I'm just going to do what's needed to get it able to move without my legs propelling it!
Cheers Jay, yeah maybe that was a bit lazy on my part!
Happy enough with it though and this car is never going to be a trailer-dwelling show queen so it's presentable enough for my needs
Ruishy1 :Jimmy, glad to see its nearly there, cant wait to see this finished![]()
