Max M4X WW :
Smo :Is that a CVH engine mount you're using, Max?

I don't know, But where is there a photo of it?

It doesn't look like the one in bridgend boys post I know that much.

Sorry Max, was very tired last night and wasn't really paying attention - the mount I saw was just your old HCS one.

Was curious as to what mount you were using though. I have the Zetec one on mine, but it's just not strong enough without the front mount on too... just allows too much movement, even with Vibratechnics, and I remembered you saying yours was different to Rob's, so just wondered what you were using, whether it was a modded CVH one or not :)

I cant actually remember where the front mount goes, do you have to weld a bit in for it? I dont think there is gonna be a better solution than a rs1800 mount or si one, unless you get that front mount in. The engine in the blue one does move a bit too, suppose i will see if it causes any problems.

MK3.5 front mount has a bit (metal flap) that bolts to the inner wing, as well as the chassis leg, while the MK3 front mount only attaches to the chassis leg, with the addition of a right-angled bracket that bolts to the side of the leg.

Obviously both mounts only bolt up to the Zetec alternator bracket (which differs between PAS and non-PAS models - as I'm sure you know!). But if Max is going PAS, then I'm guessing he's got the Zetec alternator bracket to hold the PAS pump anyway?

I think my Zetec rear mount was fine at first, but if you look closely, the rubber is only clamped to the outer case of the mount, and the metal bends very easily, making the rubber loose and free to move. I did think about welding it, but I'm not sure if the heat will have an effect on the rubber or not, so I think the CVH mount may be a better solution. I do have a front mount (and I'm using a non-PAS Zetec alternator mount anyway), but I still wonder how long the rear Zetec mount will last even when I get round to fitting it...

The other thing to remember with the front mount is the lack of captive nuts in the chassis leg on non-16v models (as far as I've seen?), so best solution is probably to bolt all the way through the leg, possibly with a plate welded on the underside to spread the load, or some how weld some nuts into the leg.

it goes on the chassis leg mate (where the 2i airbox normally sits) not sure if the holes are in all the shells bot nothing stopping it being nut and bolted it!! i think a piece attatches to the inner wing too iirc??

the zetec engine front mount was different on the early 2i 16v's to the si 16v
but you can see the extra top bracket on the inside of the wing

i used the standard ford mount by the turret and 2 vibratech gearbox mounts, honestly it was rock solid. infact i actually managed to rip a hole thru the gearbox cradle and the front mount was fine

I never had a front mount on my xr2i, never caused any problems. I wouldnt imagine it supports the engine much anyway

I didn't have one on my 1.8 ZT. Last year alone I demanded over 100 launches from the car, running Toyo R888s, a LSD and 245lbft of torque. Who knows how many more launches were performed in the four years prior to 2009?! Many hundreds, without doubt :)

I'm thinking that whatever mount I am using may be making the engine sit too far back as its very close to where the mount bolts up. I need to look at an Si 16v in a scrappy!

I am fairly certain that your engine is mounted in exactly the right position. Next time I come up I will bring your inlet and rocker cover, can get the inlet and turbo mounted and then will know if everything is sat where it should be. You need to get the pas bits too so the rack can be bolted up before inlet

The engine mount will be fine.

I run a 2.0l in my mk2 and just use the cvh engine mount. I to have done a lot of launches and never had a problem. It will be fine.

Gareth.
