interior light/reading light

Postby DK on Fri Aug 15, 2008 10:50 pm

Has anyone done any swaps/modifications on these? I find them rather boring, would want something thats probably abit brighter, maybe even has 1 soft light, and 2 seperate reading lights.

I know that many people put VW passat interior lights into there mk4 golfs.. just wonderin if anyone has put anything into there fiesta (mk3) from a mondeo/focus/scorpio etc....

A bit messy but the Puma and mk4/5 Ghia lights are just dandy :)

oo! that looks not too bad there Tweek. how did you fit those in? Normally when the mk3 interior lights are there's a bit indentation surrounding it.
Does it just fit snug into there? I'm very interested, as this could be a cheap, £10 mod (i reckon we should create a thread/topic along those lines)

You need to take a knife to the headlining to make the hole a bit bigger. Not only that but you need to cut some of the plastic off the back of the light too. Remove the connector wires from the plug, connect to new light and use some araldite to fix the new like in (tidier than mine though lol)

Don't worry about changing bulbs either, can remove the glass and bulbs from the outside :)

cool, sounds good. but if its glued in.. then it would never come out again (unless one hacked away at it). It would be good if there was a way of clipping it, or slotting it in. For whatever reason. LIke something stupid, like if the wires corroded lol.

If i do this.. i could use the boring light as a rear courtesy light, like on the fiestaguides website.

on a side note.. what about colouring the entire headlining black? seems like the only thing abit out of place in the mk3.5 insides

I've changed mine to have 3 crystal clear Blue 10,000MCD LEDs in. with a resistor for the 12volt

:D Do you have the after picture Rick? Still wana get me a little bit more info about this. As my normal mk3 light is rather problematic lately. It probably needs the copper bits cleaned up a little bit. either that or the switch is wearing out. Whenever I am in the car, and stopped, and need to read a map etc.. I flick it down, so that it comes on.. but it takes a good while before the switch actually works, and the light comes on. Gets annoying to the point where i don't bother, and just use the LED light i get on my SE phone. Rather dangerous, as when I'm driving, and my passenger needs light to get the route. I've gotta pick my mobile up, and switch the light function on, and give it to them. (or in the case of the dim witted passengers, they dont think to take the phone out of my hand).

A mod like this would be perfect.

You could also just get a reading light (led on a flexible arm, which plugs in the lighter socket) from a pound shop. I know my local shop sell one.

I'll get the pics of mine up soon.

(should have got an email for threads replied to by default, but didn't get the mail) I'll look at why.

naaah, I wouldn't want to buy one of those reading lights. I'd prefer to improve what I have, and the puma lights look like it would be a nice thing to have, without making it stand out too much. (maybe even spray it black so that it would match the dash)
