Help please! Kwik-Fit welding and tracking prices???
Hi, just wondered if anyone could tell me roughly how much tracking costs to have done at kwik-fit. Also I am thinking of having my mid-box taken out, good idea? How much would kwik-fit charge do you reckon to weld in a pipe?
They are closed this time of night so was just seein if anyone on here knew, otherwise i'll phone them up 2morrow.
Cheers, Lew.

I went to kwik fit once! I am a mechanical engineer so in the brief instances that I have taken my car to a garage I always walk out of the "owner's viewing area" and get myself under the car. This helps with kwik fit or other branded garages cause you can watch exactly what they do and also add in helpful sarcastic comments to the fitter who lives next to David Beckham!
From that point of view you can make sure that they do a proper job but I love it when you specify exactly what is wrong with your car, you take it to those sorts of places and specify what you want doing, they then come back and tell you that you require the whole of the suspension replacing and, oh, by-the-way, the brakes only have 1000 miles left on them. I was at Charlie Brown's once when I saw the "SALESMAN/FITTER" convincing an old couple that instead of getting a downpipe they actually needed a downpipe, cat, and system!! I instructed the couple to go to a nearby garage owned by somebody I knew wouldn't rip them off.
Anyway back to the point, my local kwik fit tried to charge me £35 for tracking!!
tugger and those sorts of places will take you for every penny they can get.

If you could find a kwik fit fitter that could properly operate a welder I would like to see them!!!

If you pay £20 I would want a hot bird giving you your key back and a blow job to send you on your way. It takes 10 mintues, that means they would be earning £120/hr!!

4 wheel laser alignment is gonna cost about £30\£35 quid. Also if your cars low and the wheels are near touching the arches places like kwik-fit wont even be able to track it. you need to find a place that has 4 wheel laser alignment, with a ramp that is built in level with the floor, so your can get your motor on the ramp ok, has the car been lowered and if so by how much ?

I took mine to my local ford dealer to have tracking done, was amazed that it was only gonna cost 20quid! before he took it on ramps he gave it a quick once over, asked if it was lowered, went and got the clamp's for wheels and found they wouldn't fit
so i had to go to National

Kwik Fit did my front tyres once. Broke a hub cap and didn't tell me, they just chucked the bit in the bin.
Needed an exhaust system pretty quick once too, so went to another branch (still local), and about 3 months later the back box fell off.
Never going to them for anything again, desperate times or not.

Lewy - what i would do is ring them up and ask them the price of tracking and then say cheers and its up to you whether or not you get it done there.
Also try ringing around other garages near you. I know that the "National tyres and whatever" garage near me always say they will beat any other quote you get so you can get prices down a bit

Cheers for your advice everyone, I need it as a newbie. I went to kwikfit today and they wanted £23.95 for tracking and claimed that they do not do welding (their welding tools must be for toasting marshmallows then!). With this, I went down the road to nationals, and they told me £22 for tracking and they aren't sipposed to weld but if i go in during the week, the guy there said he will do the welding for me for £20. The prices aren't too cheap, but i would say that they are reasonable enough.

While they might have oxy-acetylene kit in the workshop, they might not do welding with it. Always comes in handy for heating up seized bolts when a big bar wont crack the nut. Personally, id stay away from so called "fast fit" garages, ive seen the stamp of the kids that work in there, and i wouldnt trust them as far as i could throw them.
