Halfords & Ignition Leads

Postby Leon on Sun Sep 02, 2007 8:02 pm

Hi Chaps,

My car's recently started missfiring, so I drove (read: bounced) along to Halfords to get some new spark plugs and HT leads.

I gave the guy behind the counter the details of my car (99 Fiesta 1300cc) and he kindly went and got them for me. Upon trying to fit the leads to the car I found that they were incorrect. I took them back for an exchange and he tried to give me the exact same leads again.

After a breif discussion he said that they do not sell HT leads for the 1.3 Fiesta in MK4. I asked him if he could sell me some MK5 1.3 leads or KA leads as (to my knowelege) they would be the same as the engines are but he said they don't stock them and they wouldn't fit either?

Am I doing something wrong? Where else can I get a set of leads from?

ta!

Your local motor factors should do them. I wouldn't trust the monkeys in Halfords with anything that important. Leads/Batteries/Suspension components I always go to Motorfactors...

Slow down there matey

Not all Halfords employees are complete useless, clueless, fudgekin morons.

I work in Parts department in Halfords as a part time job and please in our defense here me out,

1. The amount that we stock / can stock is s**t, (not our fault) and half the time stock isn't there that should be there :(
2. The systems are absolute s**t. Our store got the new touch screen "Evolve" system and it is very slow most of the time and layout to lookup parts is s**t.
3. There is not enough / any training provided for parts guys.

The amount of cars that when you look up something for them you are prompted with

"No Part Number Listed In Catalogue Check For Possible Alternatives" then all of your alternatives gives you the same message, ot's completely soul destroying abd then the customer gives you grief about it :x
Have got to the point when they start giving abuse they are simply told to get OTF :)

Without blowing up my own head here I am more than compotent in what i do and if i have any problems or don't have any stock i'll help the customer to get the parts from a local motor factors, if they're nice to me of course :)

I'd also like to add that my local Halfords is great and the guys there in the Parts section know what they're on about :)

Seems a bit strange that he sold you leads and then tells you after that they don't stock them :-? Should be a fairly common one to stock...

Sounds like you're in a minority. Virtually every time I go into Halfords for anything I get a pre pubecent spotty oik who doesn't have a clue. Ask for a waterpump for an RS Turbo Escort and get asked if that's the 1.8 16v. Then when I say No get told I'm wrong. The staff should not be allowed to sell kit without adequate training.

The Ripspeed lot are as bad, had a lad trying to tell me the Focal speakers my brother had were poor and he could do us a great deal on a set of Fusion speakers.

You seem to know what you are doing which in those stores is rare. Halfords need to look at their training and staff issues seriously. I know when I was running a branch of MotorWorld about 12 years ago I had loads of trainnig to do before being able to deal with parts.

I went in to get a replacement wiper blade, was in a rush so asked at parts counter. Told him I wanted a back wiper blade, gave car details, then I was asked if it was for the front or back. After I explained that I wanted a back wiper blade for the back, he still gave me the wrong one.

Halfords are f**king useless. I ordered a clutch from there thursday morning which took 3 members of staff to do and half hour
The bloke told me it would be in that after noon and they would ring me when it arrives. Ok i thought, result as ive got a trade card for there so got it cheaper. So today i went there to ask wether my clutch had come and the useless gammon slipper behind the counter turned round looked in a plastic box and said NO! "If it aint in the box then it aint here, sorry" So i moaned about them saying it would be in the same day and he just said "well it should be in tomorow (saturday) as its only coming from luton"
It had f**king better be there tomorow or im gona kick the s**t out of the spotty, geeky, smelly, disease ridden scum bag behind the till :x :x

Another thing that you are expected to know how to do without being shown how to :(

I I was there for a year before i was finally shown, and the one morning they decided to show me and it was the sat after my mates b'day. Needless to say i was far from a sober state to do that but still this was all the training i had on how to place an order :o

The new systems i had been shown once and that was while getting trained on everything else so you can imagine how much i remember of that a few months ago

yes in fairness there are a couple (2 or 3) in my work who are so useless it'd be better if they weren't there (and their pay was split up between us ;)) but cannot comment on other stores as have no knowledge of them. Can safely say though that there is bound to be useless indistinguished ruffians in all of the HalFORDs stores but then again, what giant multinational store doesn't, eg. B&Q, Homebase, Comet, PC World etc
