Guide: Rover interior light (in Mk3)

Most older rovers have nice clear interior lights. They can be found in LDV minibuses aswell as Minis, Metros, Maestos, etc. Mine (with surround) was taken from a Maestro van. I don't know what else has the same surround (if anything), but it should be simple enough to make your own to cover the small gap left when fitting the rover light.

Here's the interior light (Shame about the Austin badge! )

As you can see here, the connections are exactly the same as the Ford ones (plugs just push on!)

For this guide I've used a peice of cardboard to make the mount. It would be far better to use plastic or metal though!

Image
The mount needs to be cut slightly larger than the surround on either side, and extra bits left either side of the inside cutout part. This could easily be measured off the light before cutting out, but trial and error works fine.

Image
Then your mount just needs sliding underneath the headlining (remember to push the wires into the roof first or they'll get in the way!).

Image
Then just pull the wires back down, connect them and push the whole unit in. Bingo! A nice clear light.

The light will only fit one way round (as shown) unless you take a small bit of metal fron the hole just inside the roof.

Hope you liked the quick, simple guide. :)
