Forward Facing Sub

Recently spotted this in a pug and thought that it was a great idea.
But are there any benifits? obviously the sub is less liable to be damaged by junk in the boot but what about sound quality? more kick? etc.

Would consider this kind of enclosure for my mk3 if it has sound benifits.
