ill get some pics of the head on monday , as am stripping it to clean everything up then lap valves back in and replace stem seals with new ones as replacing every gasket. the valves are standard size as my mate has build a few turbo engines and its same as his. the ports also look totally standard and no sign of polishing.

jay the mahle pistons are identical to mine but mine AE.

what do you mean cam coil pack?

the engine is nto what its ment to me but they left the paddle clutch in so when i went to buy it and made sure it had eveything else and when i drove it, you could tell it was paddle and was quick so i thought the engine was as advertised. but sadly no....so now my plan is to get another engine and build it to the spec its ment to be. :D

well went down to mates garage today to fit new rings and some robbing cu*ts have broke into car and smashed up the dash, stole stereo, ripped apart steering coloum and bent drivers door from top which has kinked it around window and dented above green strip.

they tried to start it and have popped bonnet then realised there was no engine and left.

so basically they stole my £40 head unit but left a cylinder head and some hoses in boot and left the new turbo which was still on exhaust / downpipe in bay.

so now i got to get a new door and sort a dent in roof where they bent door from!

well pissed off to say least! police came and got finger prints so hopefully they come back with a name and i can find the robbing s**t!

there was no lip on bore, the rings didnt even look shagged, the the bord where really glazed from fuel running down them, and compression test was about 85 psi on 3 bores and 1 bore was about 70 psi. all the bearings didnt have a mark on them they looked brand new.

i fitted new rings and de glazed the bores.its all built up now but was reading a website that says to let the rings seat in its good to let car warm up then drive the car right up the revs and let the engine slow its self down to let the rings bed in, becuase if driving carefully the bores will glaze up before rings bed in and give good compression.

anything that looks nice and shiny they want to destroy, i dont understand how they get a kick out of destroying peoples pride and joys that they spends thousands on!

didnt get pictures of damage today as spent all day putting engine in car and hooking everything up. once eveything was connected etc, bleed oil through oil feed pipe, then checked compression in bores, was getting 8 bar / 116 psi across cylinders. thats 30 psi more than i got when i did compression test before.

car fired up straight away, idled really nice, :D

away to find new doors tomorrow with handles and locks then get car over to bodyshop to get them painted and get dent in roof sorted.

then next when i get funds ill get wheels refurb with new tyres and a boot with lock and wiper :)

thought id update this with latest thing ive done. thought id do this for a bit of fun and seen it done on a mk1 turbo and it made very good results on rollers

so i bought a wastegate off ebay, 1bar spring and a 1 meter lenght of 38mm mild steel pipe. all for sum off 97 quid posted for the lot.

took half a day to do, hardest part was getting turbo out of bay without taking bumber , cooler and rad off.

result - on idle sounds like a exhaust leak as there is exhaust as coming out screamer pipe, which i dont get as WG is shut and gases shouldnt be getting past.

when it comes on boost it feels alot stronger over a normal actuator, but on drive home it popped bottom boost hose off so not had a chance to proper open screamer pipe. will try get a video.

well after going on a drive, am not happy with it, i fitted a 1 bar spring in WG, but its opening at 8 psi and not boosting anymore. so need to sort it out.

also not to happy with screamer noise, not sure if its down to not getting full boost.

back to the drawing board

only just seen this update! external set up looks sweet :Q finally in the proccess of doing mine after having the wastegate sat in a box for ages lol..

Image

regarding your boost issues, did u weld the internal wastegate shut? or even just keeping your actuator on but wound tight would do it. as otherwise this wont allow the turbo to spool up properly if its still open.
sorry if you have and my comment sounds stupid, just thought id try help as il be welding mine shut :)

edited to say: also there should be a ring that goes on the inlet part of w.g between the flange and the bit that closes/opens. looking at my one, if the ring is not there it would leave a small space around it that gases could get through the w.g and out the screamer when w.g is not open.

Re: My Fiesta Turbo - Wastegate and screamer!

Postby cowie20 on Fri Apr 17, 2009 1:20 pm

cheers for comments, yeah i have that ring fitted but screamer still lets gas escape on idle, i made a bracket and welded an ajustable rod from old actuator to hold gate shut tight.

to get my boost up i used a 1 bar spring with a 8 psi spring in the middle of it. which gave me a 22.4 psi. i then cut a coil off the 8psi spring which took boost down to 18psi. but i will be cutting another spring off to get it to about 16- 17 as with 18psi the turbo has to produce about 19-20 to over come spring.

waste gate works but getting pressure from turbo compressor same as it would to a actuator, as boost increases it will start to overcome the spring and once it reaches the size of spring or more it opens the gate inside wastegate and lets exhaust gas by pass turbo into air or back into exhaust system.

drilled a hole in t3 manfold where the 4 peipes meet, welded a 38mm pipe onto it with some home made bends, welded wastegate flange onto pipe fittedd wastegate, made a screamer, then connected pipe from compressor side to top of wastegate,

took me a mornings work and cost me less than £100 notes :D

yeh i didnt weld w.g shut in the end just got a bracket welded to hold it shut instead. less permanent that way :)

well i just picked my car up from my mates now hes welded screamer on and mine is exactly like yours, you can hear it on idle and it makes the car bloody loud lol. abit too loud for my liking?? its only wound to 8psi but sounded great when on boost :Q :Q so il be setting it to 14psi 2moro and see how it sounds  but were now in the same boat as to why it still has gases coming out when just on idle?
