diary of a zetec turbo build - ENGINE FINISHED! 20-05
Re: diary of a zetec turbo build - new manifold 05/03
the orig idea was to fit my current stage 2 t3 to it for a while but i got an unknown condition t4 foir basically nothing a while ago so i want to get that checkjed over and see what spec it is and maybe use that and sell the t3 to pay for a roller bearing item at some time.

zanderford :alright mate just wondering [ERRR] sort of money [ERRR] exhaust manifold was
was second hand and had been modified so for the work done to it and what it came with was a very good price!

not sure on the amoiunt of room yet as i havejnt got the engine and box mounted into the car, there are ways and means tho...
biggest prob is that im going to be now using a full 3" system from the turbo back so that is going to be harder to get past if there isnt much room but i will find a way! lol

its going to be a road legal track car, but im not stripping it as it will need to be used a fair bit on the roads to rack up the miles to run the engine in and have a good shakedown before it gets used properly and i hate stripped out cars on the road and im sure it will be fun enough on track with the extra weight even!

Re: diary of a zetec turbo build - new manifold 05/03
cams im using newman cams, they were ground to be a little more agressive than the std focus RS ones.
as for injectors i will probably go for 750cc high impeedance ones.
im hoping for arounf the 350 mark but will have to wait and see what it makes!

Re: diary of a zetec turbo build - new manifold 05/03
Cheers mate
getting there slowly.
as im doing it all myself then i keep hitting minor setbacks that need thinking around like the new exhaust manifold putting the turbo where the throttle body needs to go but will get round it but just settling for a better part!
it was meant to be a budget build but that has well gone out the window along time ago as i want it done right with all the right bits first as last after having to rebuild it again or something stupid like getting bored again
Yours is going to be one hell of a car also, cant wait to see it
how close is it to being sorted and finished?

Re: diary of a zetec turbo build - new manifold 05/03
Same as you really, home budget build thats gone completely out of the window! Almost into double figures now!
And running into problems! Bought RS 1600i rocker cover so needed to ditch the crossover pipe. So bought a side fed inlet. Bolted it up and the TB fouls the fuel pressure regulator so had to buy a remote fuel pressure regultor etc etc
But it'll be worth it in the end.
Cams rattling like f**k now as well! Apart from that had it all in the bay and running, water pump started leaking and belt tensioner kept working its way loose becuase of a dodgy thread so took the engine back out.
I'm determined to go to FITP in it though. Better get cracking!

Re: diary of a zetec turbo build - new crank 27/03
well had a quite a varied weekend, for many reasons but friday i went and picked up the crank from birmingham.
decided that i would be stupid not to have it lightened , balanced and knife edged before the engine was slotted into the car and run in as it would cause more hassel having it done at a later date and that really is the last pice of the puzzle for the engine itself so decided to bite the bullet and get it done.
To say i am happy with the work is an understatement. i had it done at wilkingsons dynamic balancing in halesowen and cant reccomend them enough! the service was excelent, the price was good and also the end product look brilliant! it comes with the data sheet of the balancing also.
The crank has been both dynamically and statically balanced and is a fair bit lighter than the crank before the work was done so if you hadnt guessed im pleased with the job thats been done.
here are a few pics.

Only problem i was facing over the weekend was a lack of anyone being able to supply a plastigauge so could not order the bearings, that will be done for the weekend tho
Also end of last week ordered a set of these from the US

All i need to sort then is the top half of the rover inlet

That is a very sexy crank, James
Do you mind me asking how much to have that work done? I'm about to get my complete bottom end done, but I haven't asked about knife-edging at the moment - was going to ask tomorrow when I drop the bits off, so would be interested to know how it'll compare

not much of an update at mo....
just managed to get some crank bearings ordered from the US.
got a set of clevite rod and main bearings for same price as a cheaper set of bearings (inc postage from US) so alls good.
so as soon as the bearings arrive the engine will be finished and can loo kat getting the mounts done for engine and box
its startingto pick up again now after i keep loosing interest and not having the time to do things on it.
really cant wait to have it all in and done.

THE ENGINE IS FINISHED!!!
yep just got in from the garage now, the bearings arrived today so straight after getting home from work set about rebuilding the engine. found out why it wouldnt time up tidy.. i had put the inlet cam where the exhaust cam should be and vise versa! oops! lol
all the needs doing is the clutch and alloy flywheel bolting back when i get it back off the engine stand.
Going to speak to people about welding the mounts i have for the engine and box into the shell now and then can really cracxk on with the final (expensive) stage of the car... finishing everything off.
to say im happy its finally built to the spec it is.... well its a bloody understatement. its not a stupidly mad spec but it aint bad by any means!
bit unsure about inlet but got time to sort that and may have something a bit special if i can think of a way to do it! but thats being kept secret for now.
so here are a couple of pics of it finished!

nice build mate, did you have to cut the water pump pully off due to mtx75 box being a bit bigger and pushing everything over or is does the pully just sit out to far?
also do you have pictures of the engine mount?
askign as am away to fit a focus rs engine in my fiesta but am planning on doing it in 2 days so the less cutting/welding i have to do to car the better.
cheers

to fit the mtx and blacktop you can still keep the water pump pulley, the bolts just fowled the chassis leg and i was going electric pump anyways so the blades and also the pulley mounting was cut off to make i look a bit neater as a temp measure till i get a plate made up.
if your fitting with the mtx then you need to do a fair bit of work to the shell to get it all to mount tidy, im just waiting to have the mounts welded in as i want few other bits done so its going to be going to jamsport to have the mounts made as i could do them myself but i prefer to pay someone to do mounts as if it fails then its not me to blame! lol
