I've also found out that inspection charges etc are a waste. The report has come back from CTS that my gearbox is absolutely fine, so I now have £200 costs to cover for the gearbox in precisely the state it was in when I sent it to them. Thrilled. That would've been a huge chunk of a respray, bucket seats, cage...blah blah etc
It really is infuriating but the only real conclusive option I had.

I wasn't willing to pull it apart and void any possible warranty or allow customer-induced damage to be suggested. Had I built the gearbox myself originally, I would've attacked it, but since it was built for me by a company, I think it would've been foolish to take it apart THEN try to blame the original build for the issues.

Ahh thats crap mate. Its the prob when you go second hand with stuff like that you just never know
Max M4X WW :My T2 is ok with 15psi
Stop rubbing it in

Sorry to hear that James. Its proper annoying. This is exactly the scenario i don't want, for it to be sent off then be told there's nowt wrong with it. I can't afford to anyway atm so it ain't happening
At least you can rule out any gearbox probs though now
jayrs :im glad i can do all work on my car my self![]()

Yeah have to agree entirely. Best not to mess with stuff under warranty.
What do you suspect the problem is then. I take it its these gear change issues you're still having

Yep, same old same old. It hasn't changed one bit since the gearbox first arrived on my doorstep last May. I've tried so many things, this appeared to be my last option, and it seems it's been inconclusive so I'm royally annoyed right now. All I can do is hope a new release bearing, slightly different oil (cheaper/worse oil in fact than what I was using) and this strip/rebuild will rectify the situation. I thought "I know, I'll whip it down to CTS while the turbo's off having the actuator bracket sorted, and while the weather's crappy. Get it sorted once and for all". I sent it three weeks ago, did the turbo AGES ago and have been sitting around twiddling my thumbs
jay - I'm getting from your replies that you think I just send things away to be done, and get people to work on my car for me!

not at all mate.
at end of day not many people would rebuild there turbo, and in most cases its better off being sent to a place.
same with gearbox, not many people could/are willing to strip a gearbox, not saying you cant do the work your self, cos i know ya can, ive seen the pic's of your car in the barn with engine out etc.
maybe its just me being tight mate
i dont like paying people to do work i can do myself, but in some cases its best left to them, more so if its a case of if "you" done work on it they wont touch it etc, if ya see what i mean.
but then again, i dont trust garages etc as you hear to many stories about people that have been ripped off, like my mate, he was told to make his sterring wheel stright in his escort van would cost him over £100, and that was from the guy that had just done tracking
but me mates knows beter and laughted in his face, but someone else could of been stung like it.
but i have to say £200 to strip and check a gearbox seems a bit much seeing as they didnt replace anything

My sentiments precisely. There is very little that anyone else ever does on my car, only things (a) I don't have the tools for and it's not worth me buying them, (b) I "can't" do, or wouldn't do satisfactorily to work with everything else on the car or (c) things that have to be done by certified people, e.g. MOT's.
If it were a 40bhp 1.3, I'd use the situation to read into gearbox assembly and have a crack, but with an £800 gearbox than transmits in excess of 200bhp, I'm not willing to "have a go" and blow an expensive piece of machinery to pieces
The cost of the work I've had done breaks down to £115 labour, £50 for gaskets then I need to add another dose of postage and 5l of transmission oil on top, plus VAT too I'm betting. Will just have to see what Bernie says tomorrow.

I assumed you'd know what CTS gearboxes cost! Maybe things are a little clearer now, shame that £1k couldn't have gone on a Stage 2 that changed gear

Ah my old thread
Anyway here goes,
Old T2 had had enough apparently, developed play in it thus causing me to lose power. Most annoying tbh and somewhat gay.
Bought second hand hybrid T2, improved poor situation but still lacking.
Had car rolling roaded at Well Lame Turbo Centre, plugged what looked like a nintendo gameboy into ecu port. Gameboy said fault with ECT sensor. I disagreed as it was new, car recorded 180bhp on blues. Operator said it was fine, i disagreed, went home sulking, took car off road, went on drinkathon and credit card frenzy at Wildcats (stripclub), great fun (five months worth)
Four weeks ago i decided to make a comeback with car.
Stripped engine down to discover worn rings, bugger.
Had head checked over and everything else was ok.
Soooo, commence machining work. Pistons machined, new bits here and there, ching ching, empty bank account, more depression etc.
Basically spent lots over last month to put it back on road, pretty upsetting really tho a bonus during all this is i've given up smoking (again), only because i couldn't afford none
Few pics of new bumper, no sarky/pisstake/negative comments about overspray either please or i'll be back on the bottle and smoking again. I knocked this together in around a week, most of time spent on it after work. Pretty good achievement for me. All imperfections have now been removed so i'll put some new ones up when i get it back tomorrow.
Cheers
Does this class as artified
As you can see i'm pretty pleased with it. Painted with an aerosol around the bits i've had to make but its come out pretty well.
Shame i don't have more pics of everything else really. Still should have it back tomorrow, fingers crossed

The bumper looks great, paint looks lovely! That's quite a summary, sounds like you need to get a fooking grip, hopefully your return to FT means you've done just that
At least blowing money on the car can be seen as a partial investment, unlike booze/fags/dancing women. And what's with you putting an "s" on the end of "weeks"?!

If i'd have carried on like i was doing i'd have gone into meltdown.
