Despite looking like a cheap prank, the date shown is an error in the conversion.
This board software stores dates differently as to you'd normally write them down. 1010185200 translates as 04 Jan 2002 for example.
The 1010185200 is the number of seconds since the Epoch, which is the start of the Unix time system - midnight 1st January 1970.
Any users who registered on the old board (phpBB 1) will have had the joined date converted. Any users who registered with the first UBB system (before April 20th last year) have not had the joined dates converted properly. The 1969 date is the default for an unknow date.
