Car hunting rant
I'm getting soooo frustrated now!
I seem to be hitting road blocks at every single turn now and it's honestly making my blood boil!
Due to the way the market is at the moment, there is a serious shortage of 2nd hand cars; even more so now due to the scrappage scheme and people in general keeping hold of thier cars longer.
The other night I'd found a car that ticked almost every box for sale on an owners club and it was only about 20 minutes from me too! The advert had been up for a grand total of 1 hour, so I sent the guy a PM asking a couple of questions. By the time he'd replied and I'd read it, there was an update in the post with 'SOLD'... Someone had obviously been in touch and agreed to buy the car outright without even seeing it (something i'd never do no matter how desperate) Now I don't know if any money has changed hands but how the f**k am I supposed to compete with that?! Even when I'm in there like a shot, something comes up to ruin my plans!
This wouldn't annoy me soo much if it hadn't happened once already and the usual bag of problems you have hadn't happened to me a thousand times already; find a car that looks great...find out with hpi that it's a write off. Find a car that looks great...go there and find it's actually naff in the flesh etc etc
Pi$$ed Off.
Rant over (feel a tad better now)

Just have to keep at it mate, you will get the right one eventually. I know what you mean tho, buying a car in this climate is a pain, along with that new scrappage scheme, can't believe they are scrapping cars as young as 1999 models!! I thought we were meant to be being "green" and not scrapping things that work perfectly fine! What a waste!
What kind of car are you looking for btw?

Re: Car hunting rant
I'm after all sorts tbh, but as with anything it has to be a 'proper' one. Take an MR2 for example (one of the many cars i'm considering), simple enough...but I want a rev3 or newer, uk car with a t-bar and decent milage/history etc so that narrows things down before I've started. It's hard enough to even find a car that looks good enough to go and view; then when things like my previous post happen it just makes things 100x harder.

Re: Car hunting rant
Is this all going to be part of your 'buy a car, give it a clean and sell it for more money' like all the cars you have done so far
I hope you find something, when you least expect it, something amazing will turn up and you will just have to aggree to buy it without seeing it lol. Then look at it and make your mind up

No Danny
but if I add value to it then so be it...This is going to be my 'special' car now that the fiesta has gone.
I've found out more about the car that was snatched out from under me today. Turns out the guy only physically sold it last night, so I could have popped over at any time really but he was putting all his eggs in one basket with the buyer just 'agreeing' to buy it. As it turns out the guy wasn't a messer and must have turned up and paid as he said, but it's still annoying that he basically shut me out from even looking at the bloody thing before finally selling it.

Unlucky mate. I suppose if you look at it the other way tho, if it was you who got in there first and you said you would deffo buy the car, you wouldn't be best pleased if he phoned you up saying someone has just viewed it and given him cash for it and driven away.

Re: Car hunting rant
I'd never give dibs though. If I was him I would have let me come round (could have been there within 20 mintes if he'd let me) and if it was still for sale after that viewing, let the other guy know. As I say, it turns out that the guy who must have said he'd buy it without seeing it, via pm I might add becuase he said not call as his mobile was dead, was true to his word and turned up. It's just not good business in general to turn people away before the thing is actually sold (the 'sold' was added to the post a day before the car was actually sold)
It's just soo annoying becuase the thing was so local, and had been for sale for such a small amount of time and I STILL didn't even get a fair chance.

Re: Car hunting rant
as it was only 20 mins up the road, i would of still asked to go and have a look incase the guy that said he was gunna have it turned out to be a time waster.
no harm in that after all, and if you had the cash there and then, seller might go with the old first come first served...
it is a c*nt when you go look at a car thats ment to be good and you arrive and find its a bag of $hit! more so coming from the isle of wight as they think cos your coming all that way your deffo buy it, thats why i speak to them on phone to get as much info as i can and even ask if there willing to drop anything before i comit to going to them
still, good luck with it, it is harder now with whats going on, but theres still some bargins about and people selling, more so traders (although i dont touch traders) are all but willing to take a good offer these days, more so than before, so bargins to be had mate

What do you take me for?
Just to be clear, I PM'd the guy asking for him number so I could call him to talk about the car and arrange a viewing. He got back to me and said he was working away at the time and would only be back the next day...fair enough I though, it can't possibly get sold while he's 'away' so I should get there as soon as he's back. But then the post was updated with 'sold' meaning he's just accepted what someone had said via pm, not that that the car was physically sold.
Ruishy, cheers for the offer but the car I'm talking about wasn't actually an MR2, although I am considering them too. Insurance is the main reason I want a UK car tbh as they seem to add about £300 onto the premium otherwise

And obviously i wouldnt be taking any commision
