Brand new and clueless

Postby Philyc on Sat May 23, 2015 10:47 am

Good morning all,

I will be picking up a 1994 fiesta 1.1 lx today and have been lurking on the forum for ideas. I rolled my classic mini on monday so this is my new run around/project.

I am no stranger to cars and a bit of diy but i was wondering if there was a blanket checklist of cheap and easy mods to do when you first get a fiesta, both to try and improve the driveability and also the styling. Things like oil change etc have been done.

Any tips and ideas would be gratefully appreciated

Thank you,

Phil

Picture time,

Here it is as i bought it, looks pretty shabby:

A wash, bit of polish and wax took it up a level:

Here is a before and after polish comparison:

And a shot of the inside, not completely clean but it'll do for now:

Cheers for looking.

Looks much better for a polish :) I'd probably stick a set of XR2i 8v alloys on it, lower it 35mm, change the steering wheel for a black RS1800/XR2i 16v type, set of Recaro seats from a RS1800/RS Turbo.

Check out the "Si" bumpers etc if you fancy modding the exterior.
Shouldn't cost you a fortune and is in keeping with the 4 door layout of your car.

Cheers Chris

Takes me back to my first car, was same colour blue 1990 4-door 1.1 Popular Plus.

You're not going to get anything powerwise from the engine, so don't worry about that. Depends on budget really, to keep things cheap try and get hold of some cheap 15" 4x108 PCD alloys with 195/45 or 195/50 tyres, some lowering springs. Like the others said, Si bumpers mean you don't need to worry about skirts & arches and you should be able to get some Recaro seats about or even some wingbacks from the sportier models are cheaper still. Make sure you work out if this is a mk3 or mk3.5 as it changes around 1994ish IIRC, as the seat subframes will matter.

Other things could look at are mk3.5 mirrors go straight on as the paddles are hideous IMO, the sleeker mk3.5 ones look like the ones on the mk4 and mk5 but with slightly different base plates to fir the mk3 doors.

Welcome to the forums btw :)

Cheers,
Si

This one is a mk 3.5 but the other (nicer) one is a mk 3. I am a massive fan of the boxy 1980/90s look so would want to keep the square mirrors on the one im keeping. Im also thinking of fitting the spoiler which projects out from the roof over the rear wondow slightly and one just below the rear window. Neither of them big... Hopefully that makes sense. I did find a picture of it a while back but cant find it now.

What do you guys think a sensible asking price for this car is, about 67000 miles, decent 1.1 engine, a few dents on the tailgate and a slightly rusty rear wheel arch. Would 450 be ambitious?
