boot lock

Postby dangermouse on Wed Nov 26, 2008 12:14 pm

when i bought my car, the salesman said the lock needed a bit of WD40 to get it working again as the key didnt turn in it. well after about 2 litres of the stuff over the course of a year i have decided that its because the key for the boot was lost by the previous owner lol.

i have the boot popper switch in my car so i can get into it, i just wondered how hard it is to change the lock and if there are any guides on it anywhere?

cheers peeps

Piece of piss - its only clipped in, get another from a scrapyard and you'll work out how to do it. There's a guide over on fiestaguides.co.uk which shows you how to change locks. It might be an idea to go for an entire lock set so that you have one key for all locks.

Although the popper and key both go to the lock system, they are on seperate rods and so disconnecting one won't affect the other. Its when you bodge in a mk3 boot popper into a mk5 where the problems start :bonkers:

haha i like the term bodge, its almost my middle name.
how come u went for a mk3 popper when the zetec s has one? wouldnt that have fitted easier? plus you could get it to work with the fob, although that would have been expensive

I had one laying around from my old MK3 :D My MK5 never came with a fob, I have it running from the toad alarm, but the two high power boot lifters for some reason don't lift the boot up any more :(

i hate it when the lifters fail, when u expect the boot to go all the way up and u bend into the boot, the tailgate then tries to murder you by coming back down on your head and forcing you into the boot.
was it professionally hooked up to your alarm, or did you do it yourself? i would love to fit mine to the alarm [ERRR] my key dont work in the lock

Did it myself - was really easy once you get the wire colours set up OK, seeing as mine wasn't wired in from the factory I knew where all the cables were and could wire it in correctly knowing full well where everything is :)
