Now then everyone. Just after an opinion really. I'm breaking my xr2i and I'm left with the engine and gearbox because (I'm sure you all know) they don't sell for much, if at all. I bought the latest classic ford magazine and It's zetec guide part has made me think about keeping the engine and modifying it rather than simply weighing it in.

Now I know the sky is the limit in terms of costs but what does everyone think I'd spend to get up to about 250 bhp?

I know I'll end up buying another car in years to come and it'd be nice to have a reasonable engine ready to drop in when the time comes

Same costs as a 2.0 really but obviously less power but a well spec ed 1.8 won't be far off a 2.0 and will probably revup quicker

Yeah I got told the 1.8 blocks are stronger too
