Emulation and inspiration are staples of the modifying scene, or maybe even staples of life itself. As children we all had that friend who we wanted to be just like - we’d like things because they liked them, and copy what they did. As we grow up that concept never really leaves us. It’s evident with cars although the source isn’t necessarily other people, it’s other cars too. Seeing what others have done and copying with our own twist or translating ideas from race and rally cars.

As the most popular car at Ford Fair, there’s no better example of this than the Focus. From slight nods of WRC influence like just a pair of vents, to a full on replica that requires a closer look to determine it’s not the real deal. Similar cars arrive and park side by side, suspected acquaintance confirmed as the drivers immediately converse after emerging. The respective cars dressed similarly, but with enough variance to mark individual taste and ideas.

It’s not always easy to pick a favourite, but for me the car of the show was the green Mk2 RS with the M18ASN plate. Full WRC kit (front and rear bumpers, front arches and rear wing), stripped interior with OMP buckets and CAE shifter, Fifteen52 Tarmacs with R888s and even a set of bespoke turbofans on the front wheels. I’ve done barely anything to my own Focus RS in years, having got it to a point where I’m very happy with it, but this is making me consider dropping some coin!
