zetec stinks of fuel

Problem or technical question?

zetec stinks of fuel

Postby demolition_man on Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:07 am

well it's MOT time again :(

I have a 1.8 zetec in my fiesta si, with 2.0 cams, throttle body, MAF, injectors and a DEEP ecu.

I put this lot in about 2 years ago and it's been running ok, but it stinks of fuel and it has a very slight missfire, so i assume that it is overfueling. I know that I'll have a nightmare with the emissions test so I was thinking of trying to get this sorted before i take it in.

If anyone can suggest a reason why this might be the case, then I'd love to hear it but otherwise could anyone recommend the correct 1.8 105ps ecu to use with the standard fiesta si wiring loom, so I can put it back to a standard 1.8.

Thanks in advance :)

the reason for it is because deep is already sized for a 2.0, putting bigger injectors on it will make it overfuel even worse, i cant tell you the spec of it but i can tell you that BLOB is for a 1.8 mondeo and is non pats internal edis and i have the pinout if needed.

if you wanted to reduce how much it overfuels then you could try putting on the 2.0 injectors, this would make it overfuel slightly for a 1.8 making it ever so slightly more powerful, and a bit more throttle responsive

just out of curiosity, what MAF are you using? a 1.8 or a 2.0?

to clarify, i'm using:

1.8 zetec block, head, inlet etc
2.0 throttle body
2.0 cams
2.0 MAF
2.0 injectors
DEEP ecu

Thanks for the prompt reply :) I'm using the DEEP ecu as finding an RS1800 ecu was not possible at the time.

So just to confirm, a BLOB ecu will work with a standard 105ps engine and standard 1.6si wiring?

im afraid i cant vouch for the wiring, when i wired up that ecu a loom was not available to me, i had to use the ecu plug from a 1.1 hcs and the plugs from another ecu i couldnt use (pats) to wire it up, i can tell you how it needs to be so you can modify it as needed if you want though, and just as long as you are using the right maf, if you were using the 1.8 maf that would make it overfuel more

just realised i didnt answer the last question, it will definitely work with that engine (not sure about the spec so it could be better than 105) just need to check the wiring

had a similar problem in my si when i dropped an rs1800 lump in her. took it for M.O.T, stank of fuel and was 26 times over the emissions limit!!!!! simple fix was to change the lambda sensor, probably due to using the si lambda with a 2fdc ECU
