zetec slight hiccupping?

Problem or technical question?

zetec slight hiccupping?

Postby M Brian on Thu Jul 17, 2003 1:20 pm

seems a bit irregular when driving steady with the odd hiccup hear and there

also seems to cut out a bit when starting sometimes as if ive not held the starter in long enough

but then i have to floor the throttle to get it to go - and hold the revs above 2k for a bout 10-15secs before it will idle as normal on its own?

any ideas whats the first port of call to check?

My last set didnt last me very long at all either,
Not sure if your using the standard ford ones are not, these are ment to be the best, but they can still go really quickly. Something in them goes and they start to short out, usually on the plug end, but sometimes both ends

suffer from high resistance from lead to plug>solution put smear of silicon grease inside the leads and pull em on and off the plugs a few times, can use normal grease aswell....

grease cured it then for a few days?, if so yeah points to leads problem, amount of abuse they get they should be replaced now and again anyway, zetecs normally last 5 years or so, but go off after a few years, think about it u got in excess of 40000 volts goin through em, they do take a hammerin  , if ur plugs have done more than 30k or more than couple of years old, get a new set of ford or ngk items in their :)

nitemare? common fault, 30mph 5th gear, full load, if it misfires ignition fault and chances are on a zetec its plugs or lead, if not then coil pack..

Sounds suspiciously like the problem I'm having.

I have a sneaking suspicion mine is TPS-related or possibly MAP (yours could be lambda probe, MAF or TPS) as mine jerks hard between throttle closed and very slightly open (and vice-versa as well).

If your fuelling's spot on, try a different TPS :) Also might be worth checking how clean the inside of your MAF is too.

MAF is pretty clean did that the other day

i always suspect the TPS! lol -- its the 2nd one ive had on but 2nd hand as I havent got £65 to spends on a maybe

not sure on the lambda but that sounds reasonable as the problem gets worse the hotter the car gets

Same as mine - I know mine's running lean but by how much, I don't know just yet.

Mine might behave itself better with a higher rising rate fuel pressure reg (e.g. FSE Boostvalve).
